Has anyone else ever done this? I did this for my sister after the birth of her 3rd child. She had issues with PPD previously and didn't want to go back on meds. A few people asked that I blog about how I did it so they could learn from it. Just curious how crazy we are compared to the rest of you gals!! http://mamamojo.wordpress.com/2008/06/10/placenta-dehydrationencapsulation-phase-one-complete/
Oh my God............ No doubt it's normal to some, but............ Oh wow. Haha, sorry, don't mean to make you feel like a freak- you're not- you're very brave, but I just can't shake the :ack2: feeling. Okay, time to put on my grown-up face. That is a very interesting, updated way of incorporating the whole "placenta-eating tradition," but according to this, there are actually health benefits? My mom suffered with a brief bout of PPD when she had me, and I've always worried that I might get it as well. So this might curb it? Huh. Well, I'm glad I heard about this now rather than later!
Firefly, you'll learn a lot of useful, slightly weird stuff when you become a momma, especially if you fly in the more nature-led circles. I didn't know to do placenta encapsulation before Moire was born. Had I known, I would have done it. I had a horrible bought of PPD that was exacerbated by working a night shift job. I wish I had known something like this could be done. If I am blessed in the future with another small one, I will be doing this. No questions.
I didn't do it with Hannah, probably will never do it with any other sprog. Seems a little kooky to me. @HippyFreek, that's pretty awesome you want to do it.
This is why I tried to put on my grow-up face. I am intrigued by the idea. If it works, it works. That's great. I think I'll have to get there before I make that decision, though... Good to know it as an option at any rate. Even though right now it makes my face go :ack2: :cheers2:
I am not sure if I will have my sister return the favor or not...my 3rd is due near Halloween. I did it as a favor for her and it really helped her. No PPD for her. You can Google the benefits, it's called placentophagia
I'm definitely going to give it a shot with the next kiddo! I didn't have any PPD with my son, but my bleeding did last six weeks, and that was with a C-section. I didn't even get to SEE my placenta (it wasn't offered and I was too busy puking from the morphine to ask) with Taylor. I'm homebirthing in future and will have a dehydrator standing by. Thanks so much for the step by step directions and especially the pictures.
I watched 2girls1cup without flinching, but this is just too much Well each to his own I guess, and this must have its benifits, but personally it's not something I would go for. Even though it is something that comes from the body, I am extremely squeamish when it comes to blood, so that's maybe just me. L_S
Im paying a "placenta encapsulation specialist" to do all the dirty work for me!! My husband stands behind it 100% some people think I'm crazy...but what do I care?
