p omg, I fuckin love those guys To the op. Asking that question would be like asking "who is the best band ever" there can never be one. But in my opinion having heard MANY over the 12 years I've been playing guitar here's my top 5, not necessarily in order: - Stevie Ray Vaughan - Dimebag Darrell - Jimi Hendrix - John Petrucci (closest there is to the best, if you're speaking in the context of mastering and exceeding at the instrument) - Al Di Meola P.S - Django Reinhardt, Pat Metheny
The best guitarist is all a matter of opinion. In my honest opinion I think playing fast on the guitar doesn't make you a good player. It just shows you practiced a scale enough to go threw it really really fast. It's not really music it's just fast playing. What I think is true music is playing with soul and feeling so I think Hendrix surpasses majority of the "famous" guitarists out there today. Rory gallagher was amazing also. There is no best guitarist. And whoever said Malmsteen I hate you. He is the most ignorant cocky all for show guy I have ever seen. He is trash and I hate when people think he is good. He is one of the few I hate with a passion. Which isn't right because I try to love everyone but I just cannot stand him.
I vote for Eric Clapton, not because he plays "fast" but because he makes it look so smooth and easy.
It's pretty well agreed upon amongst professional musicians that Esteban is the best guitarist around or maybe this guy: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4zqsV6g9lcw https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rjnj4NaaFE0 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XocFWZtnslY
you just missed the best guitar player there may have ever been.... Les Paul He had done everything AND recorded it by 1962, thats why many of the players already mentioned have his name on their guitars, and not the other way round!
Eddie doesn't annoy me personally, but that's alright. ;-) I still think Yngwie is ONE OF the best. Really, I don't believe in having just one best guitarist. I can see no one has mentioned Joe Satriani yet, nor the name Steve Vai has come up so far. How about Robert Marcello? Eric Johnson? Tom Morello? There are SO MANY guitar players who are great at what they do in their own ways that, in my opinion, it's pointless to narrow it down to just one guitarist as being the "best". Well, I'm not the one who first mentioned Yngwie on this thread but... Hate me anyway 'cause I LOVE Yngwie. ;-) I won't hate you back though, if that's ok. I think you're getting "arrogance" and "CONFIDENCE" mixed up. Yngwie is confident, not necessarily arrogant. I keep noticing this but his English also isn't actually as good as many people assume. Remember, he's Swedish and English is NOT his mother tongue. Because of this, he may say something and it might be misinterpreted. Go easy. ;-) I play guitar, I perform live, I sell records, and I fuckin' LOVE my music and my playing. Why do I say that? Because I don't want to offer my fans something I can't even enjoy myself. That to me is rip-off. I'm asking people to actually PAY their hard-earned money on something I created. It would NOT be fair to them if I can't even love it. The good shit I write gives me goosebumps, and ONLY the ones that move me in one way or another end up on a record. Otherwise I won't put it on the record, period. That to me is fairness and confidence. You can hate me if like, but... Don't you get exhausted hating? I do! Love y'all!
SRV IS damned good! Funny, I was just listening to his music just tonight when I was walking down the street.
Listening to all of these non-guitarists talking about who they think is the "best" guitarist is hilarious. Such obvious choices, as if they don't have an opinion of their own. And what's with all of the classic rock guys? It's been nearly 30 years since the end of the 70s.
These two guys are pretty good: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Igv3ytUCGq8 Yamashita and Coryell are both pretty awesome. Jimi Hendrix was quoted as saying that his favorite was Billy Gibbons As much as I like Hendrix, I saw him playing pretty sloppy (way too druggged up) live, and as much as I like ZZTop, I wouldn't call either of these guys the epitome. Everyone has their favorites. Mine change by the hour, the day, the week, the month. I kinda like that guy who plays on youtube,,uh,,what's his name,,you know the guy,,hehe,, Jeff Beck plays like a hounddog chasing a squirrel, but it's rare to hear him staying in a groove. He's more jazzy. Clapton has had his moments. I liked him mostly in his Mayall and Cream years. SRV always seems to please. Only problem is the limited amount of material out there of his. Albert King, Albert Collins, Buddy Guy,, It's all good. But this guy,,I'll never get enough of this guy: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lW0tKIDE4Xo
I enjoyed that video. Not that I would listen to that regularly but it was nice. I suppose this entire discussion was utterly useless to begin with so I shouldn't expect much from it.
