So here we go. I guess I've had dreads for about 5 months now (haven't really kept track). Started them by sectioning, backcombing, waxing, gelling, elasticing, etc, all that jazz. Although I really don't think this ruined my locks, i'm quite sure they would be more mature if I had just gone natural. So I did two deep cleanses, with lotsa hot water. The first cleanse water was like mud. Nasty, while the second just darkened a bit, and I'm quite sure all the wax is out. Lately i've just been making homemade teas, though I still use the KB shampoo, just cuz I like it. As for my real question however, my locks seem to sit to flat, and just don't have that dreadlock "hugeness" that I want. Maybe my hair just isn't going to give me the big, poofy, fluffy locks that I envisioned, maybe I just need to quit worrying and whining so much. I have 38 dreads, with a decent few that are about an inch thick. Any advice on how to give them some wild, messy, poofy character? The back is especially bad. I know this seems just like a bit of a needed dreadlock rant, which it is, but any advice would be appreciated.
Yeah, patients is really the only thing needed. A year from now you will have more hair than you know what to do with.
hmmm, well i have about the same number of locks as you, and have a lot of volume. could be your hair type.
It's your hair type. I have flat and lifeless dreads at twenty months in. Mine however is worst on the right side of my head. To give my hair that hugeness I have to dick about for a long time in the mirror with them and doing that is only a very temporary solution. But the good news is they are getting slightly better, so may be yours will too I don't think there is much you can do to be honest just sit and wait it out.
yea i think its hair type. my hair is huge, but it has been since i can remember, dreads or not. its just even more huge now with dreadlocks. let me just say this though the huge hair may look cool, and i do love the way it looks, but wearing helmets and buying hats sucks. i'm obsessed with fitteds but i have a huge collection of hats that i can never wear if i get rid of my dreads, and i huge collection of hats that i cannot wear now that i have dreads.
They will thicken up over time. Mine were fairly thing when I started and they're only about 5 months now and thickening up already. Just wait it out
Ok, thanks everyone, I'll just wait. It probably is hair type, and my right side is also the worse one. Once their long enough to tie up I know I'll love em.
