yeah so horror story. i cook in cast iron and stainless steel almost all of the time. most of it is my grammas aunts stuff and its been frying and cooking it up since like the 20s no problem. well i randomly decided to go buy a cheap frying pan I cooked eggs in it fine the first day. Second time I go to use it I put it on the stove, medium heat for about 3 or 4 min to heat up. A little olive oil in the pan to coat the bottom... I go to put a steak on the pan, THE TEFFLON or whatever cheap crap they had in the pan BURSTS into flames......... Not small throw a towel on it and it goes out flames but burn your effing kitchen down flames... So I grab the thing, STILL FLAMING but I don't wanna ruin my landlords kitchen..... and throw it in the sink and get the water on, burning me and some other crap along the way. Anyways moral of the story is, DO NOT buy cheap pots and pans... buy the good stuff........... I have been cooking since I was 12 and I am from the south so we fry EVERYTHING and I have NEVER had a kitchen fire until I decided to use a cheap non stick pan. wtf?? I'm scarred for life, I don't even wanna go in there and make my steaks now. FRACK!
Damn, that sucks. Around here a shitload of people buy cooking supplies from the Dollar Store.. I don't trust that shit for a minute.
Cast iron ftw... I do have two stock pots- one aluminum and the other stainless steel but otherwise I've switched over to cast iron... all the teflon got tossed. Glad the fire didn't too out of control.
i managed to talk myself into going and cooking the rest of the food, had to throw out the broccoli, guess it got smoke damage EWWW all i could think afterward was how hungry i was and how mad i was at that pan for messing up the kitchen..... my husband told me to take it back to the store and show em how insanely shitty it was to sell something so flamable to cook on
A friend of mine nearly burned my kitchen down trying to put croissants in the toaster :toetap05: it was a laugh though We also used to make big fuck off fires with a big pan of boiling cooking oil over a knacker fire and throwing water on it
i make sure basically everything i buy these days is NSF approved.. meaning its safe for industrial kitchen use
Glad to see more southerners purusing about the hip forums!!! Much love I'm from Alabam and can second the fact that just about EVERYTHING is fried down here! My favorite : Country Fried Steak w/ a shitload of Brown Gravy... uh oh!!! FUCKING MUNCHIES ATTACK!EVERYBODY RUN!!!!!! but no i am stoned and hungry.... as a fuck
mmmmm friend pickles with ranch =) fried okra comes in second, friend green tomatoes and home made fried chicken (no KFC for me haha), fried cornbread =) mmmmm tasty tasty fried fattttts
Wow, I wonder how it erupted like that I've never heard of such a thing. I'm glad everything ended up okay and nothing was severely damaged. Yeah teflon is now a known carcinogen as well.
i was in complete shock, have never seen a frying pan do such a thing in my life. just a reminder that all things are possible. got a bigger cast iron frying pan yest and am so happy it has enough room in it to cook my food right
I've had pans go south quickly, but not with such flare. New pots and pans make for great Xmas hints.
Yea, that sucks something simular to that has happened to me before. Where in the south are you from?
