Have you enabled it in your browser settings?

At the top of your page, while you are on the internet, there is a tool bar. Click on "tools" then "options" then "content" there will be an option in there to click a box to select enable java. That is instructions for firefox. If you are using explorer, "tools" then "internet options" then "advanced" then scroll down to where it says java. Enable it there.

What are you actually trying to do? Do you want to write Java programs (in which case your best bet is to download the Java Development Kit) or are you just trying to view a website with a Java component or something? It might be worth updating your Java Runtime Environment (google JRE)...

It's not clear what you want to do, so I don't know how to help you. Are you trying to run a Java applet in a browser, or run a standalone Java program? Standalones don't rely on the browser in any way.

    OK, go to
    http://java.sun.com/javase/downloads/

and choose JRE 6 Update 17 (or the latest JRE).

Download the installer, run it, restart, and you should be good to go. I'm assuming you're running Windows XP or better.

thanks for your help. i dont think it installs correctly for some reason. when i go through the dialog windows i dont see any options that have to do with java, jre, or sunsystems. maybe my computer just doesnt support it. and when i click the link to make sure i have it on the java website, it says i already have it...just dont know what to do anymore, i might just have to give up :(

Do you know how to check your PATH? Proper Java installation adds a path that looks something like "C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.6.0_17\bin". Java won't run unless there's something like this in your Path. You also might have to restart after installation.
