The Israeli government has officially said that it “deplores” the vote by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) member states to call on Israel to join the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) and submit their nuclear facilities to the same oversight as the rest of the world does. CAIRO, Sept. 22 (Xinhua) -- Some Arab countries have welcomed the latest resolution of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) on urging Israel to join the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT). The resolution was adopted late last week at the 53rd IAEA general conference in Vienna. The resolution also urges Israel to subject all its nuclear facilities to IAEA checks. Qazhiyah Khouri, Lebanon's ambassador to the IAEA and Austria, who now chairs the Council of Arab Ambassadors, described the resolution as a historic achievement which the Arab countries had been dreaming of since 1991. The ambassador said that Arab countries were pleased to take the resolution as having a message to Western countries to re-consider their support for Israel, especially in the light of an international environment that calls for ridding the world of nuclear weapons, an environment that had been outlined by U.S. President Barack Obama. http://news.xinhuanet.com/english/2009-09/22/content_12098728.htm All those that Wanna talk about ISRAEL - then perhaps talk about ISRAEL here...instead of clouding the issue regarding IRAN.
seems to me, that israel tends to act as america's enforcer in the region. it's no secret that america is always in support of israel. whether it's for making money or some misguided notion that jerusalem will be the site of some future holy war... i don't know. just seems that america has a vested interest in israel. i called israel america's little brother because we keep them stocked with the latest weaponry and generally always side with them.
Big topic, and since I have not been following politics that much lately,I'll have to give a partial answer to the question+topic.--I stand by Israels decision, just like I would stand by countries like France,England,Australia and so on if they make or made the same decision. They are peace loving countries with stable, rational governments and it does not worry me one bit that they have nuclear weapons.---And if the US is pushing or pressuring Israel about this , the US should mind it's own business!--The worlds most peaceful nations, again countries in Western Europe,Australia,Israel etc. should be EXEMPT from a treaty like that anyhow. Those countries do NOT need a treaty or oversight.
"america has a vested interest in israel" ADM...while your reasoning might be wild...it seems your premise is essentially correct. Check this out: http://video1.washingtontimes.com/video/israel.pdf It was, anyway. But I don't think much has changed since those times...and the reasoning is to promote peace...not war.
Everybody needs over-sight, imo. Independent over-site. You need to know exactly what is going on and who has got what... Most countries - even Iran - apparently want none-proliferation.
Maybe if it's very independent and 'fair' oversight,I dunno, again it's a very difficult topic.--Going a bit off topic here but Iran has a crazy government and even countries like China and Iraq are worried about Iran having nuclear capabilites,so Iran cannot be trusted with anything they say.As we know it was not to long ago Iran and Iraq were at war with each other.
It is a difficult topic - so many prejudices abound. There is just so much to read too: http://www.iaea.org/NewsCenter/Focus/IaeaIran/index.shtml
Yes, this is true, but it's also for pragmatic reasons. Near all western countries(even the Soviet Union did too I believe) voted for the creation of Israel and have backed it up to begin with. Combine this with the fact Israel is surrounded by countries that have traditionally not been friendly with the US, well generally in world politics you prop up your allies. It's not different then our relationship with Britain, Japan, South Korea, Canada, Taiwan, ect among others
Can't you leave your prejudices at the door? Why "ofcourse"? It isn't like they WANT proliferation of nuclear material...and they are part of a more middle eastern pact to not spread nuclear material (Like America not signing the Kyoto treaty but still having a climate change agenda). The point is, the majority of the world have signed up with the GLOBAL ambition for NP...why can't Israel?
The media has blinded you all! Look who controls the media! http://www.sweetliberty.org/issues/shadow/jewishmedia.htm
You are just as bad as the media...you are blinded. Why? You are just as cynical... Think about the the word cynical and then think about your self.
odon whilst you might oppose the supposed facist loving , israel hating media or at least a media that doesn't seem as informed as the israeli Ministry of Facts . just one thing the word you are looking for is "opposed" not "apposed".
