how many harvest per cake?

when growing mushrooms off of those cakes or out of tubes of rye seed, How many times are you able to harvest mushrooms? Is it one grow and thats it?

 

that depends on a lot of things. theres no one answer to that question. your harvest will depend on so many factors it's impossible for me to tell you what you'll get.

generally, cakes do not yield very high.

casings, and bulk methods get more usually.

 

You can get upwards of 4 flushes per cake if you keep everything clean. The yield generally goes down as time goes on, a second flush is always worth it I find the yields are worthwhile, I never go for 3 anymore. No need, but you can.

 

Generally 3-4 rounds of flushes after that I wouldn't consider what comes off of the myc a flush, but still worth growing if your next set of tubs are not ready yet.

4-5, but only if you dunk between flushes. As other have said, though, after the second flush, you're not gonna get a whole lot more.

I also reccomend a dunk & roll prior to the first flush, too.

 

the first 3 are usually the best, the 4th is often smaller, and the cakes are often quite poor condition by this point and prone to becoming contaminated

They have their place, but I agree that they're worthless for the most part.

IDK, I think casings are more like junior high. They're pretty damn easy.

But it's also a PITA to maintain a Martha. Personally, I like dub tubs. Simple and so fucking effective it's ridiculous. Plus I can close it up, point a fan at the Polyfill holes and not have to even open it till harvest.

tubs. yeah...tubs aren't really a lot of work now that i think of it. spawning can be intimidating to some but there is nothing to it really. IMO the waiting is the hardest part.

personally i think the martha is more efficient when it comes to amount of space used for a huge yield but your correct about the PITA part. i would never want something like that running in plain view either. tubs are much more discrete and convenient.

Well, I learned by fucking up and cutting corners then having to go back and fix it on the next run. I always gotta learn the hard way though.

Well, yeah, if you wanna grow 30 pounds at a time, by all means you need a Martha. I wouldn't wanna have to make and maintain all those tubs. But for most people, a Martha is just overkill.

 

I want to go to college. Are tubs less likely to be contaminated? Can I do those out side? Any links on going directly to tubs?

 

If you have to ask these kinds of questions, you're not ready to do tubs yet. Sorry, but they aren't for beginners.

 

Are there any links if you don't mind linking me. I see no reason to do cakes if there is a more efficient way. Your opinion is appreciated in this case though. Just don't assume that I am unable to accomplish any task I set my mind to.

I'm telling you from experience, though, do a PF grow or two before you try bulk. When you get to the bulk, it'll piss you off a lot less. Plus while you're learning (it's gonna take months of reading before doing bulk) you can do some cakes and have mushrooms to help you think.

Because I've read about people 'noccing up PF jars on their front porch and being fine. Try that with grain and see what happens. With cakes, you inoculate, let it colonize, birth it, put it in a terrarium and fan. Bulk is a lot more work.
