Greetings All, So, today is the day we find out if Chicago get the Olympics in 2016. Personally, I could care less. All of the hype is driving me crazy. If we do get it then that will be all we will hear about for the next seven years. Do I think it will be good for Chicago? Sure, I know it will. On the other hand I am not looking forward to the time when it is here. This place will be packed with thousands of people and everyone will get pissy and those days are going to be the worst for traffic and such. Today might as well be a fuck off day. I wish I took today off. Nothing is going to get done and the only thing people are going to talk about is the Olympics. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy the Olympics and all and I respect people who are accomplished enough to participate. It's going to be interesting. Thoughts?
So.. how much will this decision effect your job? ie: are you gonna get any sort of awesome catering job out of it?
Well, that all depends on if I stay where I am or not. If I do then I will be right in the thick of things and will be very busy. I don't know if I can last here that long though. We shall see. Who knows. Seven years is a long time. It will create a lot of business here for construction and so on. I also think it will increase tourism.
Well, we are out. First round. Not that I am disapointed that we did not get it but it sucks to be thrown out in the first round. Oh well.
How about all the Olympics from here on out take place in Athens, Greece where it originated from and we wouldn't have this ridiculous problem nobody really cares about.
I might be biased since I was born and raised in Wisconsin, but I can say that Chicago is the last place I'd take a foreigner to see America. Most foreign nations already think rather poorly of us.
Really Marco? And why would that be? Chicago or NY would be the best cities to show someone imo to really get a feel for the hustle and bustle of the American Society. There are always things going on at all hours of the day and are basically the epitome of the society which we have created over the last 100 years. Architectural marvels, loads of current creativity, but also a respect for the creative geniuses of the past, and both cities are just rich in history. I certainly disagree with your comment, Chicago ftw I'm all for the Olympics being held in Rio though, all the news cameras will show are scantily clad females lining the streets
Chicago is not known for many good things. There is some great history within that city. Chicago has plenty of crime and that kid that got his skull smashed doesn't look good. The city AND state have "political problems" that might make Mexico look pretty stable. The Olympics in Texas would be cool if it wasn't so hot.
So its in rio. If it is the summer Olympics, and their winter is during 'our' summer, when will it be held? during their summer?
Marco talks about the level of crime in Chicago and now the olympics are being held in Rio.. now do you compare murder rate?
I live in the heart of chicago, and having it in my city would have been wonderful. I love the olympics.
And Rio and Madrid don't have a lot of crime? Madrid has some straight terroristic groups, the worse of which is by far the ETA. Rio has a crime rate of 37.7 murders per 100k people, while Chicago's is right around 16 and has actually dropped 10% this year. Not to mention the Rio police force kill over 1000 people themselves every year "allegedly", which is over three times the amount of people killed by all the officers in the United States combined. Doesn't sound like too safe of a place if you ask me . The only place with a low crime rate on the list is Tokyo, as Japan has one of the lowest murder and violent crime rates of any developed country, with similar rates even in their ridiculous megacity. No way do our political problems come out worse than mexico either lol, their organized crime is worse than anything in this state FO REAL Also when was the last time you went to Chicago? The city has really received a huge face lift in the last decade or so.
