Hi, I'm kinda new around here, been lurking for a while though. I started my dreads in July, so they're still babies, but I have some serious loops. I'll try to get a picture (my camera sucks). I'm just wondering if these will go away eventually--not that I care if I have some loops and funky textures going on, but seriously, they're out of control. some of my dreads have huge loops back and forth down the whole thing. Is there anything I can do to tame them? I started them with a combo of backcombing and twist/rip. thanks for the help!! :)

Those are nothing :p My bigger ones were atleast 1 & 1/2" horizontally from the body of the dread. What I can reccommend is slide a bead (Or two depending on the size) over it, and wait. Just forget about them.

After a while they'll flatten down and should get sucked into the body.

This is like looking at my own hair.
I started in june, so we are pretty close.
I have veeeeeery similar loops. Personally, I enjoy their presence. Fun to touch.

As for them going away, it seems to be the general advice is that they WILL go away with time. And I agree, that seems to be the only thing. I have tried wraps and such, but they always remain.

Best of luck, and it loos good so far!

I like loops! I purposely tried to structure some of my dreads into loops, and some of them did loop (for example, by using beads to shape them). Now that I've had dreads for 13 months, though, most of the loops have thickened into the dread they belong to. I miss 'em.

Right i'm in for a flaming for telling you this but there's a way to get rid of them. I have to look presentable where I work so I can't have loops so I have to get them sorted. Plus, I'm not keen on how they look.

You need a crochet hook or dread tool and all you do it put it through the loop ( you might need to make the loop a bit bigger) and you pull the dread throug. So when the hook is through the loop, grab the end of your dread with it and just pull it through. It takes a bit of practise, but not alot!

After just give it a quick palm roll to flatten it and no more loops!

    hope this helps

After Palmrolling (It's starting to work now, now that I have something to work with.) a few times, mine start to roll into the dread and get FAT. Just keep working at it, try to palmroll a lil' when you're watching a movie or w/e.

Otherwise just chill, and let the rare creatures sleep :D

And it's only £4 which is cheap for a dread shop
