I've tried writing several novels, I get to the first couple chapters and thier great (i think) and then I don't know what happens I just loose it and it sounds horrible. Any suggestions?
make sure you got the main ideas for the whole book down before you start writin then write all the filler and arrange it to make sense add more if necessary
Short stories work for me. I don't think I have the interest or attention span to complete a novel. I have had some fun and positive feedback with short stories here on Writers Forum. (To find anyone's work here, go to Writers Forum content page, select Display Options to sort on thread starter, ascending, from beginning, and page through the result list until you find the username.) You will need a story line and some definite ideas about who will be in it. The story will work best if it is based on personal experience, unless you're doing science fantasy.
There are no firm rules, but a treatment is more-or-less a narrative that vaugely descibes the action and plot progression, i.e., A teenage couple out riding ATV’s in the West River Woods is mysteriously attacked, the boy brutally murdered by an unseen assailant. The girl attempts to escape on her motorcycle, but fatally slams into a tree. The woods are filled with a painful/longing wail, “SCRUUU!” This is ten pages (of a script-- probably twice that were it a novel) distilled down to it's essence. Steer away from details and only include minimal dialouge. ------------- It's like describing a book you've read to a friend without boring them to death. Tell yourself the story. Often, the begining won't lead to the end without inorganic contrivances. That's why most novels started never get finished-- They just don't work as first concieved. But don't give up! My personal advice: If you want to be a professional writer, don't fall in love with anything you write. Sometimes, that scene I really, really, really, wanted in there just doesn't fit quite right and has to go. Make each chapter fit the novel. Don't try to make the novel fit the chapter. And don't stop writing!
I had the same problem. I got into writing several books, but never got further than five or six chapters before I either lost interest or the story disintegrated. I think the problem I had was I just kind of ran into writing a book without before thinking about what I was writing about. Before writing I like to jot down any and all ideas I have, or even write several short stories based around the main subject the book would be about, just to get your creative juices flowing. You don't really need to write down a complete detailed, and technical layout of your story line. You just need to elaborate the idea in your mind, and jot down enough notes, ideas, and enough of the story line so that you won't lose interest after a while.
