http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/33179052/ns/technology_and_science-science/?GT1=43001 I havent read the whole article so i dont know if any of this is new info but it sure is interesting. Imagine coming across these at night, it would blow my mind seeing glowing mushrooms. They almost seem fictional, like alice in wonderland shit.
Luminescent fungi aren't anything new, but this type is a new species... and is extremely neat looking. I like the glowing gills.
those are possibly the coolest musrhooms ever.. if only they were psychedelic. then theyd reallly be the coolest ever.
There was a huge patch of these in a couple of spots around our campsite one night when we were tripping. I probably stared at them for 30 mins. Haha. Pretty cool!
Highly poisonous :hat: On a reminder of those, does anyone on here know what differentiates Jack-O-Lantern mushrooms from Chantarelles?
True, Jack-O-Lanterns have sharp edged gills and pumpkin orange color growing in dense bunches (cespitose). Chanterelles also look somewhat like the so-called false chanterelle (Hygrophoropsis aurantica). False chanterelles have close sharp edged gills, thinner stems, and often orangey brown tones. They may not be the same color all over the fruit body the way real chanterelles are. They are not fragrant. Some say false chanterelles are mildly poisonous while others regard them as merely a culinary disappointment. Don't eat them. http://www.mushroom-collecting.com/mushroomchanterelle.html
Wow, thats fucking cool. I remember reading an article describing an invention by Australian scientists: A spray that can be applied mushrooms in the night -and if they contain tryptamines, then they will glow.
clicking that link made me think, i would need to do a LOT of research before i'd trust myself enough to pick edible or psychedelic mushrooms and eat them.. the fluorescent ones were awesome here's some cool mushroom pics http://www.kingdomoffungi.com/db/aa-index.php
Including the hairyus ballisackum: And the "There is a reason why i dont look edible" shroom: Thnaks for the link, never thought i would be so entertained by fungi.
They are amazing in their complexity and variety. Mycology was probably the most interesting class that I took in undergrad.
i work everyday with a fungus: yeast but that's about the only fungus i know anything about i like those scientific names you gave to the shooms, stonedage
Interesting. Thanks. I haven't had a problem with this yet since the only place I pick is Sweden, where Jack-O-Lanterns don't even grow. But it's good to know the differences And Porkstock, you should be fairly fine unless you start picking white mushrooms. A lot of them are apparently really easy to mix up. :cheers2:
I know enough about mushrooms to be scared to hunt for edible or psychedelic shrooms on my own, even with a good field guide. You should always be able to identify the shroom and differentiate it from any of it's look-a-likes.
