ok so i like this guy..but he's 23 and i was pretty sure he was into me...but he also assumed i was older...when he found out i was sixteen he seemed a little alarmed...is he too old?
all i can say is age doesnt matter if you two get along, respect eachother,have common likes and dislikes and are proud to be together than he ygo for it but if not than give it up.
I'd say that unless you want him to possibly be arrested for statutory rape, yer gonna have to wait till yer 18.

I don't think it matters if you have sex or not, if a 18+ guy is in a relationship with a 16- girl, it's statutory.
idk i was pretty sure it was if you had sex...and anyway if we were to be doing the whole dating thing how would anyone know unless we're obvious about it...i tend to be more on the discrete side of things
technically that can be true cuz if the parents dont like the guy they can go to the police and say hey hes 21 and she 16 and hes having sex with her or some bullshit like that. also it can be false cuz you would have to have actual sex in order for it to be statiturary rape. well i think 17's legal now in illinois so it would just be a few months and anyway its not like im easy...... to this yes the legal age is 17 up in illinois and wisconsin area. once you turn 17 it wont be statituray rape.
I was in a very very serious relationship with a 45 year old and that was too old. Thinking that age doesn't figure in is a beautiful ideal, but sadly its not always so. Your age difference is less than ten years and I'm sure you're very mature so it might not have such a drastic effect on your relationship but waiting until you're 17 might be a good idea because, as it was mentioned, being prosecuted for statutory rape is not a funny matter. In the meantime get to know eachother. You don't have to be seeing eachother, per se, to enjoy one anothers company.
The question seems to be more about why the guy is alarmed, and I think it's obvious as was pointed out. The guy is likely afraid to be even seen "dating" (whether you are actually having sex or not) a girl that is underage for fear of going to jail. He would also have to worry if he ever made you mad, that you would cry rape.
I say go for it if you want to keep it secret for a few months then do whatevar once you turn 17 its on
