Should men and women be seperated at times in religious institutions?

...I gotta think that if men and women are together sometimes, they can certainly get distracted from any preaching lol.

I don't see any reason why they should be.

It's church. You're supposed to be going for a good reason because you really really really care about what's being taught because it's supposed to be like the most important thing ever and shit. If you can't keep your mind out of the gutter for an hour and listen the fuck up to important shit then you fayl at god.

So no. Take any university as an example. People can keep focused if what they're listening to actually has some merit. Do you find merit in your religion?

This is one of the problems with religion... or I should say many religious people.
They take thoughts of sex and call it "mind in the gutter":angelsad2:
    For fucksake its instinctual!

Sorry. Sort of off topic. Had to say it. Chill Stabby. You probably just need to get laid more. Or drink more milk... hahaha

Perhaps there's no use for it as how a lot of people see it today, but it's also a religious tradition. Now I know that many religious traditions are frowned upon nowadays (some more righteous than other) but if the real religious people dig them I say that's reason enough. It's their religion, not mine :)

Perhaps I'm naive, but I find that it means little to profess to believe in something if you remove all temptation to disobey it...

Stabby actually kind of put words in my mouth. I said nothing about gutter thoughts. I said "distracted from preaching" which does not have to be gutter thoughts lol...

    Peace,

I don't think they're saying 'mind in the gutter = they think all sex thoughts are bad', just that being asked to exhibit some degree of self control and focus for a short amount of time in the worshiping of a God that's pretty conservative in that area. If one can't manage that, then one would indeed fail at that God.

Now if your God isn't as demanding, then leer on. Or if your God is a sexy beast and wants orgies at it's ceremonies, then hey it'd be the clothed guys that would half-assing their religion.

I think what was trying to come across was: If one only half-asses a religion, then what's the point.

That's interesting...I think that people most often genuinely dedicate themselves to what they believe is good...they may not have experienced this or that "temptation" as it were, but I think that people can be genuine in that state (not having experienced a "temptation" lol.)

this would entirely depend on the institutions and beliefs involve. collectively and then effect individually of these people's cultures too.

somethings are less interfered with experiencing when seperated, not only from persons of other or prefered gender, but from all humans or even all life forms entirely.

other things, certain kinds of celebrations of faith and spirit and praise and thinkfulness, these just as much sometimes benefit from having everyone all together.

but again, this can be very different from one belief to another, and within the same belief, but in the setting of a different culture.

Of course I'm not against sex and I don't think it's a bad thing in the least. The point is that religious people are supposed to care enough about their religion to give it their undivided attention during church and anybody who makes a less sincere effort than that shouldn't be there at all. If they have to separate men and women because they're distracting each other that says a lot about the congregation as a whole.
