If SWIM, got a hold of some red pseudoepgrine hydrochloride tabs, what would be the best way to remove the dull red coating? He tried rubbing them with acetone and only got a bit off, he tried lightly spraying with water to "Loosen" the outer layer in a strainer and toss them while spraying them with acetone to rinse them off.... End result still alot of FD&C red no. 40 still there. Could SWIM just take the tabs and go ahead use them? or should he try some other methods. I imagine he shouldn't even gotten the red tabs to begin with. Can the coloring be removed in a water pull followed by filteration then a methanol wash?
iirc, Heet is just methanol iirc, its been some time since I day-dreamed I thought that would dissolve the pseudo. Prolly, the best bet, is just avoid those tabs.
thanks for the confirming, SWIM botched his batch. I haven't dreamed of such things since before the hive was shut down....used to stay up late all night daydreaming with a few folks in irc chat. Now that my dreams are fuzzy it'll take a bit till they are clear as day again.
Could explain the cleaning process?. I heat the methanol and add the pse dirty, cooled in the freezer for several hours and filter the methanol, obtaining clean pse, color stays in methanol. Correct me if I'm wrong in the process. Thanks and best regards
shermin, SWIM vaguely remembers him from back in the Hive days... didn't realize he had publications... SWIM tried the Heet wash and all it did was turn it light orange-ish red and the pills to match.... Must be all the gak they put in them these days...
I read somewhere that one should stay away from the shiny red coatings because they contain sugars. But if they have to be used then put them in a collander and run cold water over them till the coating is washed off. If the red coating is dull than you should just grind or crush them up and use coating and all. This of coarse would leave the finished residue a wee bit orange in color but it harms it in no way. as always one should wash with acetone and allow to dry completely before further use.
