I have listened to hundreds of people talking about communism and capitalism .. but obviously as you all know .. when put into practice .. they don't work .. my question is .. what else is there?
Definition of capitalism: In a capitalist economic system most productive assets are held by private owners, and most decisions about production and distribution are made by the market rather than government command. Capitalism thus suggests a system of economic regulation that involves minimal state involvement. ------------------ As far as capitalism not working in relation to this definition. Generally speaking haven't privately owned businesses worked? If capitalism, meaning the ownership of businesses being largelly in the hands of the private sector, doesn't work then how do you explain the success of the various industries in America for example? I don't see many Americans wanting the gov't to take over the running of the U.S economy so capitalism or at least the American brand of it still appeals to most Americans.
Looked it up on Wikipedia. Interesting but it doesn't sound like much of a system however, the Wikipedia article is ridiculously short =P
Gift economy, accept that we are all just wasting time with this score keeping shit (which is meant to save time for those people who are good at the game, but in the end, it's just grinding, powergaming, which consumes their lives, and doesn't get them anywhere) so, why not just gift effort? time? skills. it works on a small skill, yeah, you'll have mooches, but you have that with the other systems too. at least this way, the people who are working hard are actually the ones getting ahead.
^^^ nah man, you're looking at extremes. Communism has some really good ideas, and capitalism has some really good ideas. And both, unfortunately, can lead to death if orchestrated by irresponsible people. I say let's take the good ideas, mix them bitches up, and see what happens.
People have tried doing that, and it's brought us in the situation we have right now in America. The best solution is to have a free market system with no govn't involvement.
That "no government involvement" sure has worked the last 10 years. No oversight, weak or no regulations and typical human greed tells me that someone -ie: government(the people) needs to keep a sharp eye on what the powerfull do and don't do to make sure this country is run equitably for all. The no or limited government people want everyone and everything the hell out of their way so they can continue to wreak havoc here and around the world. They're very successfull. Look where we are now.
What else is there??? Life without large centralized governments...what did the American Indians have?? How about life where your just allowed to live and work your land...where there is no large central government to collect taxes and create hundreds of smaller agencies that control or regulate everything you do from birth to death... How about people just living in small villiages, being happy and being left alone... To fish, to plant, to build...without having every inch of your life regulated or governed by a large central government...where your loyalty is to family and villiage, rather than to a large central government... How about a society that functions without money...where love and nessicity motivates you to do things, rather than cash... I can think of many alternatives other than Communism and or Capitolism.... What system are the deer under?...what system are the birds under? or the Elephants? Yet they survive and thrive (At least where man doesn't intrude on them)...
We've all been brainwashed or conditioned to think governments have to control us, people, in order for life to have meaning or direction... Or that without some large central government...that Anarchy would break out... Many have been brainwashed to believe that...that from craddle to grave we have to be babysitted and looked over by some large central government... Yet for thousands of years this was not the case... I do believe you can have order and law without these large modern day governments controling every aspect of our lives...
Capitalism and Communism are two opposite extremes of economy, one of private ownership, one of public ownership. There are certainly gradients, and there is also the political gradient. Check out the simple graph in the upper right of this document. http://culturemagic.org/PDF/c3Economic Systems.PDF Joshua
Capitolism, Communism and Socialism are all different sides of the same triangle...the only difference being how the money is distributed within each system... All systems being driven by big industry and oil...
