Hi -- I live N. of Dallas, Texas and I grow my own tobacco at home. I joined the forum because I saw lots of growers are here and I think tobacco and pot are similar crops -- both are tropical plants, for one thing. Both are under attack by government with either big fines and jail time or high taxation, which isn't really that much different. Then main difference is that it is perfectly legal to grow your personal supply of tobacco each year and you don't even have to hide it in the closet! I am dedicated to helping people refuse to pay the high tobacco tax punishment and I relish the opportunity to answer anyone's questions on how they can grow their own tobacco. Will some of the regular members here help me find the best place to start a thread on growing tobacco? I searched the forum and I"m not sure where the best place is to put my new thread. Thanks! Bob
hey Bob welcome to HF. sorry i'm not much help with finding a thread cause i'm new here as well but i wish you the best of luck. just wanted to say hi and make you feel welcome. i'm sure you'll meet a lot of awesome people on here. -ky
Hi -- Thanks for your welcome! I don't know why I never got an e-mail when you replied, but I hope I can fix that here. I usually subscribe to forums I post in. I guess I'll wander about and see if I can find a forum here where people would like to learn how to grow tobacco at home..... Bob
Wow - Don't find many tobacco freaks anymore. Kinda taboo - ya know. You'll find someone with similar interest - Welcome.
Ddoright, I found a gardening forum here where I will start a thread talking about how to grow your own tobacco at home. Maybe later I'll start another one with an idea that I've been working on -- that is that in fact, using tobacco products might end up actually extending your life because of the benefits of tobacco. Yes, tobacco has benefits but you won't find Big Pharm telling you about them! Bob
hey bob....howdy and welcome to here...i will read your thread on growing ...i too have an interest in growing plants that you smoke and look forward to any info that i will gleen from your posts.........unless your incredibly boring in which case i will make a polite exit...see ya on the forums dude
Hi -- ROLLINGALONG, lol, I'll try not to be too boring! Do you prefer slapstick, one-liners or pratfalls? (grin) I just started this thread over in the Gardening area called Grow Tobacco At Home (if I remember right!) http://www.hipforums.com/newforums/showthread.php?t=381906&f=58 It's a very brief overview of how to grow tobacco, and I'll be glad to answer any questions y'all have there! Let's ALL stop paying the punishment taxes on tobacco! Thanks! Bob do not post your email....please use your homepage/allow vcard download option in user cp
actually bob, not all varieties of cannabis are tropical. some are suited for drier and harsher environments, like the mountains of afghanistan for one. if pot only were suited for the tropics, morocco wouldn't be known as one of the world's hash capitols.
Hi -- I assume you are talking about the lack of humidity or rainfall rather than tolerance to freezing weather. I also grow orchids and other tropicals. Strangely enough, many tropicals are adapted to both hot, wet conditions and hot, dry conditions as the regions they grow in have a dry winter (not cold) and wet rainy season. Tropical Orchids, for instance, have a pseudobulb that holds moisture when the dry season is happening. Tobacco also is known to grow well in the arid regions of the world. In the mid east, there are great crops of tobacco and you are right, they have been bred to accept even drier conditions than more moderate weather tobaccos. Even here in N. Texas, my last crop of 250 plants had no rain and no irrigation in the months of July and August and I only lost 5 plants. However a good freeze and both cannibus and tobacco are goners. They are tropicals by my idea of a tropical plant. Bob
it's not just selecitve breeding done by humans that have given certain types of plant life tolerence to climate extremities. plant life often can adjust to a completely different part of the world's environment if it is allowed to grow there for a long enough period of time and get sued to the outdoor conditions. but yes, thanks to the efforts of human beings cannabis can grow on six out of seven continents and thrive effectively. there is even an autoflowering species of cannabis that thrives in the harsh climates of eastern europe and western asia. it is known as ruderalis, but because of it's lowpotentcy. it is largely used for industrial and textile pourposes. btw thank you for your insightful input bob
