So I've been finding these mushrooms lately that grow out of yards that look pretty similar to psilocybe cubensis or something similar. They have pale to dark purple gills, a creamy white to yellowish cap, and they have a ring that is white, but is grooved and purple on the top. Took a spore print and it's purple-brown to almost black. I've seen a lot of videos on the internet about identifying several species that grow in very common areas like lawns and non-livestock fields, but I want to have a good idea what they are before I do anything with them. Anyone have a good reference for this, or any suggestions as to what they might be?
Did it bruise? How were the gills attached to the stem? Was the bottom of the stem boulbous, straight, narrowing? How well attached to the substrate were they? Do the gills come past the margin of the cap? What do the gills look like - are the crowded together really close, or are they kind of far apart? What about the cap? Was it umbrella-shaped, did the edges curl up, was it flat? Did the cap have a nipple or a darker spot in the center? What have your temperature/humidity been like? Any rain recently? Where, generally, did you find it? Answer these questions and I can help you. It sounds like you just might have something. Luckily, I can ID Cubes with certainty. Everything else, I'm not so great with.
it bruised, but i'm not entirely certain what color... possibly blue, maybe gray. the gills were attached to the stem, but didn't climb down the stem at all the bottom of the stem was mostly straight, maybe slightly bulbous it came out easily and cleanly with little dirt clinging to the base the gills did NOT go past the margin of the cap the gills were kind of crowded, definitely not far apart most of the ones i found were "umbrella" shaped, but shallowly if that makes since, however some of the largest/more mature of the ones I found (three to three and a half inches at most) were more flat, with the edges curling up they did not have a dark spot/"nipple" in the center, but most displayed a gradient (like a mono-chromatic rainbow) from center to edge on the top of the caps have good humidity and generally rain seems to benefit this species found them in middle of flat yard at an apartment complex in MS they have generally appeared in flourishes of four to ten but the one i found in the same spot most recently was alone I found it during the rain, however it is the largest yet they look somewhat similar to SOME of the pictures of Stropharia coronilla, but I don't know, obviously. I do know that the several specimens i have found are all the same species because they appear in the same spot and have the same characteristics and all have the same color spore print.
I need pics. I'm not gonna give you a proper ID without pics, but that sounds really promising. DO NOT EAT THEM WITHOUT 100% POSITIVE ID!!! I can't stress that enough.
why u bother? just buy a nice pizza and enjoy it. or buy lots weed and use it for evil! like building pyramids and shit..
Haha wow shit dude didn't think you'd answer all that but :cheers2: This the mushroom?: http://www.uoguelph.ca/~gbarron/MISCELLANEOUS/agrocybe.htm Whaz bout this: http://www.uoguelph.ca/~gbarron/MISCELLANEOUS/leucoqag.htm
if it doesnt bruise blue- do not eat it. mississippi got good rains recently. hit up some cowfields and find cubensis and copes.
Here's some links to pics of some of the specimens in question and some of their spore-prints: http://i37.tinypic.com/x6mq07.jpg http://i35.tinypic.com/2d10coo.jpg http://i37.tinypic.com/5bbwk8.jpg http://i37.tinypic.com/b9jh90.jpg http://i33.tinypic.com/108945t.jpg http://i34.tinypic.com/wqwvh0.jpg http://i37.tinypic.com/2lnbq0g.jpg http://i37.tinypic.com/wqyno2.jpg http://i33.tinypic.com/106y4iw.jpg hope this helps, they aren't the best pics, but all i really had to work with was a camera phone. Thanks
Can you get some more close-ups, especially of the gills, preferably while the cap is still on the stipe?
I am the OP, used my friend's account. I have hit up cow fields and have had some pretty good luck, thank you, though.. I was just wondering what THESE were. Do you know? I am more and more convinced that they are stropharia coronilla, but without any in-depth mycological knowledge, I can't be entirely sure, and if they are psychedelic, I would like to... give them a proper burial.
no more pictures until they flourish again, though, unless you want to see the dried caps. I hope they flourish at least once more, if they do, I will do better homework in getting the pictures. I will get pics of them growing as well as the close up to the gills with stipe attached to cap
My guess... Leucoagaricus species, or if on your lawn to be specific, then possibly Leucoagaricus naucina K, I'm way to fucking burnt for this shit, I'll type later when I have some brainpower cause trying to get my font to stop turning bold on me without italics is driving me insane -.-
if you think something growing on your lawn that isn't a p. subbalteatus is gonna get you off by all means eat it. have a nice trip to the shitter.
Where do you live? Although I did see a purple ish print in the picture, I also saw a rusty brown, maybe it's just my computer or something. But we definitely need more pictures, closeups, and possibly some habitat photos. Post up an ID request on mycotopia or the shroomery it can be very helpful, they normally answer quickly (although you may get some clutter from the latter.)
