*It was hard to get it right and visible in the picture....hence my 'focus' face.* At the start of my dreadlocks, I got fed up with one section and put it in a loose braid from root to tip, and twist and ripped the bottom to make it stay. As you can see from the picture,(That is, I hope you can see from the picture) the top is nicely dreading, there is a wee middle bit where the braid is becoming dread-like, and then the braided portion. It seems to be that the braid gets loose at the top, mixes with a bit of loosey hairs, and continues downward. So I suppose in my case, I very well could have braided sections and waited for them to dread. Thought I'd share. I recall a bit of discussion on whether or not Caucasian hair would do that.
Most of them on that side are soooooo loopy. That is why it is a grand thing I enjoy the presence of loops. I'd be freaking out otherwise....
That's awesome. I had a small braid in at the beginning, but it kept falling out so I gave up. I am a bit jealous
I love it Sarah! I tried to do one myself, but my hair is so slick and slippery that even after trying to crochet and T&R the end, it slipped out. I'm jealous of your braid dread.
you're lucky sarah... when i was younger i had super long hair, and my mom used to rejoice because she could braid it, leave the braids in for 3 days and then just add shampoo and the braids would come out with no tangles. my hair is naturally wavy but not naturally kinky!
It just depends on your hair! I'm contemplating starting dreads and in the past, when I've had a bunch of smallish braids in, they've ended up felting into dreads. D
This one guy asked me to touch my braid dread today. I tried to explain to him that it would feel like any other braid, but he disregarded that and groped it anyway.
You must embrace the dread-braid-groping I loove it I have a few plaits in my dreads, three infact... and they aren't doing anything!! My hair is prooper soft anyway, and they braids are annoyinly behaving
