it's probably just soap building up inside your dreads, you gotta make sure you rinse them out very well, last thing you want is to have soap stuck in there getting moldy. you should try a deep cleanse to get rid of all of it, there is a link to the recipies and measurments in the stickies, i use baking soda, lemon juice, sea salt and tea tree oil once a month to keep mine clean and it works quite well

Ive had mine for over 9 years and never had that problem, i feel for you. I would be devistated if anything were to happen to mine. I usually only wash with shampoo maybe once a week with this awesome natural shampoo i get and definately rinse and squeeze them out good. Good luck to you:party::party::party::party: now that's awesome, sorry i haven't been on in a while to check things out lol

Nine years and you still wash once a week?
That seems a bit strange to me.
Whatever works for you, I suppose.

HUH ... What do you mean Sister? You make washing one's hair sound like a burden?

Well- to all who know me I thing most hygiene-related tasks are a burden. But that is only because I am lazy.

I think this particular topic isn't really a matter of laziness, though...
Everyone I've talked to on the subject (in real life, that is) washes their hair far less than undreaded hair, and as the amount of time they have had dreads goes up, the average washings do down. I mean, mine are about four months. don't feel like I need to wash them once a week to keep them clean and healthy. My brothers are over two years, he find himself having to wash his less than me. It just seems strange (based on my opinion of the matter) that someone with nine year old dreadlocks washes so often. But like I said, whatever works for that person is absolutely fine.

*didn't meant to go off topic, either*

For sure, each person sets their own standard of personal hygiene ... I washed the last load of locks I had once a week and I had them for 3+ years. I've also been washing this load once a week in recent weeks. Personally, it's not the hair as much as it's the scalp getting dirty ... not washing the scalp for more than a week would be the same as not washing any other part of the body for more than a week ... perspiration, dead skin, toxins being worked out through the pores ... etc, etc ...

    Anyway Sister ...

Why do you say that zilla? I likes the baking soda as much as the next guy, but is it going to remove residue?

Much as I hate to disagree with one of the hottest women on da hip:cool:, I have to say I think ACV will probably do more to remove residue. In the future I would suggest you cut down on the amount of shampoo you use, and be a little more thorough when rinsing. Or maybe just stop using shampoo altogether and use baking soda or water instead.

I love washing my hair. I disagree with Zilla ( ) I use an acv and bicarb rinse once a month and it's superb at getting my hair squeaky clean after washing with Bronners. I think this is the residue coming out but I'm not sure, I've never noticed residue in my hair.

    i agree with zilla.
also, i agree with sarah. only b/c i've heard that the more mature and more longer they become, the hair can be uncomfortable heavy when wet, and it takes forever to dry.
