http://www.guardian.co.uk/media/2009/oct/23/bnp-question-time-ratings Well they got 8 million viewers, a record question time audience, half the total audience share...
Becuause they are just hypocrites. The BNP let everyone know where they stand. I should have used the EDL as an example rather than the BNP because when the EDL were protesting in Birmingham the UAF basically caused a massive riot. I saw everything, UAF supporters running round causing trouble with people who werent involved with protests, clearly being racist.
I didn't assume you're racist, I actually assumed you're ill informed. To regard this fascist party's opportunistic policy statements as "making sense" in the light of their fundamentally racist ultra-right underlying principles, which are clearly on display for anyone who has done the most basic of research to see, is either an indication that you're a nazi, or that you're deeply ignorant of what the party really is, how they operate and what they stand for. I don't think many genuine fascists would participate in a forum like this, so I have to assume you simply don't understand the nature of the BNP with its history in the National Front and the British Union of Fascists. Hopefully this Question Time went some way towards exposing to those million BNP voters and other ill informed people such as yourself exactly what kind of party the BNP actually is...
looks like it did not go so well to nick griffin...although question time should not have been focused around JUST him...but it's understandleable as a party such as the BNP attracts a lot of hate.
No, you're ill informed. Ive said i dont support the BNP and as soon as I say that something to do with them makes sence you get all defencive as if theres a massive tabboo around them. Well you need to stop believing the media and if you're that interested do some actual research. You obviously just watched the news or some shit and now think you're an expert right?
The BNP's entire policy stance is founded on the idea of 'repatriating' non-whites and establishing an ethnically pure Britain. Their economic policies are radically nationalistic and separatist, their social policies are overwhelmingly authoritarian. Their anti-immigration stance alone would be a disaster in purely economic terms quite apart from the fact it is entirely founded on racism. Please tell me which of their policies you think makes sense? I don't think there should be a taboo about the BNP, personally I welcome Griffin on Question Time because these views need to be exposed to scrutiny. The only reason they got so much support was because people are so ignorant about what they really stand for. If you don't know very much about politics, superficially some of the things he says may appear to "make sense", that's why we need to have a proper and public debate about what the BNP really is saying and what they really stand for, beyond the quite skillful soundbites that have convinced many...
I was very sceptical about the idea of having Nick Griffin on Question Time. Not because I wanted his views to go unchallenged on national television, but because I felt the format, which is traditionally quite stale and over-regulated, would be a poor one to challenge them. Not least because he is a skilled public communicator used to running rings round politicians and journalists. But the stars of the show here were clearly the audience, they gave Griffin a battering and he made himself look like the arse that he is. It was all over the moment he started laughing at David Duke's hood....
Because I missed half the show on Thursday, I downloaded the rest off iPlayer. I found him and his portrayal of his party to be quite intriguing. I'd have guessed he would try and make himself seem likeable and fair, not that he did a very good job at it. I was surprised a man such as him would even be invited onto Question Time with the loathing he has for the BBC, but I am glad he has, so he can be publicly scrutinised, and he showed himself for the slimy, calculating man he really is. Jack Straw must have made himself some friends at the start of the show. It's not often he gets clapped and cheered these days. The lesbian woman at the end was pure class by the way.
Griffin, thinks hes the new ozwarld mosley, wtf did the British fight the last war for? to keep fashests from takeing over their country, did they fight for nothing? anyone who backs this ignorant piece of shit is disrespecting all who were maimed and killed.Any British person who backs him are traitors!
Well it's pretty hard not to be popular when you're denouncing what the BNP stand for... I think Griffin was right though, that the BBC had to ask him on, since his party got nearly a million votes in the EU elections, and to that programme specifically because QT is a programme which always has a wide range of politicians from right across the spectrum. He's unlikely to get something like a special interview, like more mainstream parties, so for the BBC to provide balanced coverage of all political voices, it would have to be on a panel show format like that, or perhaps as a panelist on Newsnight...
Haha I suppose you're right there. The enemy of my enemy is my friend in that situation!
I quite agree, this is a man who has publicly admitted his admiration for Hitler, denied the holocaust and called for British generals to be hanged. I am no fan of British generals or their conduct of the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, but Griffin's positions show that there really is nothing British about the BNP....
The BNP won the seat in Burnley due to all the racism from both white and Pakistani communities in the area. About 2 miles from the town is a smaller town called Nelson...I lived here for about half a year and saw a distinctive divide between the 2 communities. If a girl had a Pakistani boyfriend she would be daubed 'a paki shagger'. I was challenged for shaking hands with a 'non white' and I heard multiple stories about 'white boys' being attacked and girls being attacked in this mixed up little town. It was rough and truly upsetting to see this happen. This was over ten years ago, well before 'The war against terror' and it was in a state of disarray even then, I can only assume that the current affairs in the middle east will have provoked more hatred and led to more violence and exaggerated stories which will in turn provoke more of the same...race hate and frustration from both communities. The people who live in this environment feel compelled to do something about it. The BNP have got into power through this...it is simply a demonstration of the lengths people will go through to get their point across....obviously there is an underlying presence that suggests that some of the voters actually want a 'pure white' society but I feel that they are actually a minority of the BNP voters. I will be worried if they get in for a second term, but until then we need to address the problems that these underclass societies are struggling through...it's come to the point that these people are trying to fight racism with racism. Segregation isn't the answer. Understanding and education is the way...one race...the human race. From the BNP site... Question Time Onslaught was “Titanic Own Goal for Liberal Elite” Bournemouth BNP Told “The entire stage-managed Question Time bullying fest turned into the most stupendous recruitment period for the British National Party with over 14,000 new people signed up in one way or another. On behalf of our chairman and our membership, we extend our most enthusiastic thanks to the Marxist BBC!” What does 14,000 new people signed up in one way or another mean? Lets make sure they don't get in again. We need to address the issues positively. Personally I thought they damaged themselves on the BBC, though their 'views' on the war did sound deceptively compassionate!
one thing annoys me when people say the bnp cant use churchill or people in spitfires for their campaigns. I would guess the majority of white people who fought in world war two were nationalist they were fighting because they were worried their country would be invaded , the americans fought with a segregated army blacks were mostly in support roles even though lots wanted to fight . in america it took to the 1960s for blacks not to have to get up and move to the back of the bus when white people got on . I dont honestly think that most british people fought in world war two for multiculturalism some did but I dont think the majority . the uaf were partly founded by the man who got the fatwa on salman rushdie I didnt watch the show but I know the griffin said my dad was fighting in the raf your father jack straw was in jail for not fighting , what he should have asked is why jack straw or harriet harmen attack racism and yet are jews who married jews whose parents were jews who married jews etc etc surely thats racism and double standards . the whole thing is a bit ropey I cant say I like any of the sides involved
and even if they damaged themselves they had a platform thats the worry you would expect them to do badly the first time with a hostile audience but if they keep at it they may improve . Id say griffin in many ways is a liability hes given talks where he as good as says he says one thing to get elected but wants to be more radical, thats a mistake on his part even if thats what he wants to do he was foolish to say that and have it filmed .
Yes I am a white man and I quite agree that if I were to marry a white woman it would be an irrefutable indication of my flagrant racism. The fact I have a white father who married a white woman just cements the issue. I just don't know what I was thinking having parents like that. I will clearly be voting bnp next time round...
so are you saying its not racism to have a group of people teaching their children they have to marry jews which isnt just a religion its a racial group . but it is racism for someone to tell their children to marry white people .
When Griffin said that his father fought in WWII while Jack Straw's father was in prison he was laughed at for the childish absurdity of the implied slur. I'm saying it's fatuously idiotic to try to suggest that Jack Straw or Harriett Harman are racist "hypocrites" because of what their ancestors may or may not have done...
well if they carry on the racist traditions of their ancestors yet attack griffin they have double standards . if he had brought up these double standards he would have been attacked for being anti semitic . Im not sure what jack straws views are on jews marrying other jews or marrying non jews , Id like to know it would have been a interesting question to ask him
