Since males are XY and females XX, I'd have to speculate that the clitoris is a residual penis and women are lucky it's still around.

On the other hand, maybe this ties into the whoel monthly menstration cycle.

Speculation:

Female mammals, with the exception of humans, build intense sexual pressure that is only released semi-annually. Human female, being caplable of sexual arousal all the time, require the added impetus of the conscious pleasure factor to insure thier, ah, active participation in the procreartion process.

How's that sound?

 

Clitoris is one form of the common expression of sexual stimulation.
Orgasm enables the cervix to open allow sperm to pass.

 

Original thought is a bitch to find.

That's probably why I'm a fiction writer by trade.

 

Sounds quite evident . We have already determined that brain chemical pleasure responses contribute to the upkeep of the individual.

In my experience in breeding tropical fish, they are induced to spawn by increased temperature and nutrition.

 

Wow, just like women! They, too, can somtimes be induced to spawn if you turn on the heat and feed them well .

It seems to me to be always about becoming more of myself than protect and preserve my condition, and every species follows the same edict from munching on another creature, to having orgasm, to stepping out of the way of a falling rock.

 

They are not the only fertile mammals more then once every 180 days...

But it is a nice vision of the end of human civilization - if we would be fertile just in February every year!
