I'm getting 40 fresh liberty caps from an acquaintance this week but i really can't use my fridge to store them (it being a family space and such). I was wondering how i'd be able to dry them out in a couple or hours or so (maybe in an oven or something?) so i don't have a bag of shrooms floating around my house for a few weeks. Thanks.
Been drying mine the same way for years, basically just spread the libs out on a sheet of news paper, make sure theyre not touching or they will clump up and stick together. I gather my own and generally dry them in row's of 50 - 100 .. just keep an eye on them, if you need to keep em out the way of family members etc .. just slide the sheet of paper under your bed out the way. I usually leave them for 3 - 5 days on the paper and if they were realy wet when picked you need to rotate them every now and then to stop em sticking to the paper. After theyre dehydrated / cured, i just make a fold up paper envelope with the sheet of news paper and i keep these stored together with other wraps just bundled together with an elastic band. Store in a cool dry place and they will be fine for years ..
Deranger's pretty much hit the nail on the head. I'd keep them in an airtight container instead of paper though, psilocin's hella-unstable.
I set them on a box fan for a couple hours then stick them in a Dehydrator on 95. They will be dry in less than 12 hours after harvest. I agree with Psmith about an air tight container.
This works well. I don't like using heat, though. http://www.shroomery.org/5265/What-are-the-different-ways-to-dry-mushrooms That is the best way, IMO.
my subs had worms in the caps and they just multiplied cause they was damp.. Very freaky little worms.. hahaha. I ate the stems.. And the Worms ate into his brain..:willy_nilly:
You know i never put much thought into keeping them in an airtight container after drying .. makes sense realy. Think because weve allways dosed with approximate amounts not weighed amounts we allways wrap em up in 50's and 100's etc .. but if i dry them then contain em ill have to start weighing doses. Suppose i should be anyways ..
Psilocins not really THAT unstable (at least I don't think so) As long as your not stupid about it you can store them almost anywhere, don't worry about it just get them cracker dry. AND (just to put a nail in the casket) liberty caps only have trace amounts of psilocin, hence why they lack the characteristic blue bruising of nearly all psilocybe sp.
This isn't really related to this thread - but as you guys know your shizz thought I would ask away, What are the prices these days for shrooms? They don't do them by weight do they - tis' by numbers? If you could reply that would be great (y)
I put a few paper towels in a bowl put the shrooms in and set by a fan. I always have one going in my house, overnight they will be crisp dry. I have never had them stick together or clump. For higher amounts I use like a 8x11 baking dish with the walls, with a paper towel layer, by the fan.
