I hate to continue this as it doesnt pertain to the topic here, but as long as you have asked, I will. First of all, let me say that this did not happen to me. I am retired. Have been since a few years ago. This is a generalization of the way things are happening here in the Southwest. If you dont speak Mezcan(thats right, Mezcan) you will be turned down for most jobs, including those from the lowest form such as working at McDonalds, or to the highest form of being a manger of a company or casino or whatever, and it doesnt matter if you have 20 years of experience for whatever job you are applying for, they will rather take someone with no experience just because that person can either communicate with the customers in Mezcan, or communicate with the employees in Mezcan. Now, this is America, and ever since I can remember, English has always been the number 1 language here, but that is now changing. With some southwest companies, if you call them, you now have to press 2 for English on the phone. Now, if you think any of this is proper, then I dont know what to say. But this country is going down the tubes. Maybe you dont see it being in Philly, but we are the first to see the Mezcan invasion here in the Southwest, and I am sure maybe many parts of the South. The migration will continue Northward over time. I love the bill that Pahrump Nevada tried to pass, where it would be illegal to speak anything other than English. It almost passed, and maybe next year it will pass, and other cities will follow, but I doubt it, as the Mezcans continue to approcriate and take over. You see, you are young and in the North, so you really dont understand. And when did it change that when you became a citizen of this country that you were required to know English? My mom was a pure German and she immigrated here back in the 50's, and one requirement was that she had to speak English before she got her citizenship. Somewhere this country has lost that requirement.
It may not be at this very moment, but it is very quickly becoming that way. If you add the Mezcans and the Blacks and the Asians together, they are now outnumbering the Caucasians in this country.
Yes, times change, deal with it. You live in the south west, the south west has always had a large Spanish speaking population, in fact before the great depression and the subsequent operation wetback(yes that was the real name of it in the 50's) the amount of Spanish speaking in the south west was probably as great or greater then it was now. The times are changing, deal with it. And you're employer doesn't care how much experience you have, if you can speak Spanish, apparently to him you're the more valuable employee. The free market at its best. You sound like you'd vote BNP if you lived in Britain. "The migration will continue northward overtime!" Oh noes! Buddy we already have plenty of Spanish speaking people up north too. You live in a place where the economy is built on hundreds of thousands of migrant workers who generally only speak the language of the country where they came from, much like the millions and millions of other immigrants that have come here. Do you think immigrants of the past just suddenly leaned English when they came here? No. In fact most took years to have enough to reasonably get by, and like Spanish and Asian immigrants of today were relegated to immigrant status for their whole life because of it. It's a global village now, the difference now is learning a 2nd language is the norm for students around the world. You wanna know something, if you went to Mexico, and knew English, considered the amount of tourists and ex-pats, you'd be the more valuable employee. But then again from what I've seen more Mexicans in urban areas with schooling can speak English then Americans who can speak Spanish, or any other language for that matter.
My mom, back in the 50's, learned English so she could become a citizen of this nation. That was required back then, but does not seem to be required now. I went to Germany when I was 13, and I learned to speak the basic words at that time out of respect to where I was going. But for me to have to press 2 for English if I make a call, or for others to be turned down for a job even when they have the most qualifications but just because they grew up speaking English in America and dont speak Spanish, they get turned down, that just aint right. This is America. Hell, I went to school in the 70's and the early 80's, and at that time, we didnt have this problem. English was the primary language, and that was it. This is a problem that has arisen mainly in the past 10-20 years, and it is getting progressively worse. Back in the 70's, you didnt need to know Spanish, and you would never get turned down for a job based on knowing a second language. Yes, the times they are a changing, and it definitely aint for the better. This country is losing its values, and the Mezcans are taking over. Soon, Mezcan will be the primary language, and Juan Valdez will be our president.
The last 25 years has also seen a massive level of immigration from Mexico and other latin American countries that has never occured before, oh wonder why so many people speak Spanish. How does it make you feel to know within 40-50 years people of Latino decent will be the majority. Wow back in the 70's you didn't need to know Spanish to get a job, back in the 70's you didn't have to know how to use a computer to most jobs either. Get with the times. English is still the main language of not only this country but the lingua franca of the world. Having things in Spanish is just easier then having 20 million people wander around carelessly, especially for business, you would not do well owning a business these days. Actually you know government documents in CT can come in array of languages, one of them Turkish. Like seriously how many Turkish people are here. Back to the main point, you're just like every other nativist group in history. In the mid 1800's a lot of people in the country spoke German, it freaked people out. At the turn of the 20th century, a lot of people spoke Italian, it pissed people off. Now a lot of people speak Spanish
okay, let's see if you can get it this way: is it worse for someone to tell elmo that he cannot use the jungle gym because he is red, or for elmo to actually adhere to this? see what i was trying to say?
I think it is hilarious that he says hes not racist when he so clearly is, he wont marry the couple because of the kids they will produce. That sounds racist to me. And what the problem with mixed people? Our president is mixed, Celebrity Maya Rudolph is mixed https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ys0M9u0wQUA and i mean correct me if I'm wrong but they seem to be doing pretty well for themselves
He tries to suggest that he is not racist but culturally aware. You are living in a era of expanded civility that did not exist to any great extent 45-50 years ago. there are many surviving members of old attitude who have not shaken their conditioning.
It's from a documentary called The Black List Vol. 2. Saw it a few weeks ago at a friends house and loved it. I would definitely recommend checking it out, I'm pretty sure my friend picked it up at Target. I didn't see the first one tho so i might have to check that out too!
