I bought a new Dell laptop 2 month's ago, and it came with McAfee anti-virus software pre-installed. Now, I've always used Norton and got good results. I decided to get rid of McAfee and install Norton. So I went to "All Programs", found McAfee, but it would not let me uninstall it. Why? Anyway, it came with a 30-day free trial. At the end of that, I still couldn't uninstall it. So I paid $69.99 to renew it for a year. Is McAfee any good? I run a scan a week, and so far the scans have come up clean. And the computer has still locked up on me once.
dells are not good. i wasn't especially impressed with mcafee either. it is personal preference to a certain degree though.
There's nothing wrong with Dell's. That's just product snobbery. I just wanted something under $1000 that I could drag around with me. I just object to not having a choice on my anti-virus software. There need's to be a law against that.
Hi =) Dell's aren't the highest of quality, but like you say, it serves purpose and for a cheap laptop with a semi-decent spec, I think Dell (along with Acer and others) they are very good value for money. Mcafee... Used to be a real leader when it came to Virus Scanning technology, but my presonal opinion is that it has recently really tailed of, missing critical issues, when even free scanners (such as AVG) can quite easily find them. They also seem to be providing known signature updates later than other mainstream Virus-scanning software. For home use though, I cannot see any major issue with using it. It does the job, although I wouldn't reccomend you re-new speaking from price / value point of view. Luke
