The man's really getting me mad.The health care bill is crzy enough, nobel peace prize?I mean what has he done for peace?I know tons of people who have done more! And the health care bill is just crazy! How is that helping America????This country i go dwn thaks to Obama.
I take it then, that you don't really believe that Obama is serving the cause of "peace" when he launches Predator Drones (at taxpayer's expense) into Pakistan in an effort to kill human beings whom he regards as "terrorists" ?? Menachem Begin was another "mad bomber type" who also received the Nobel Peace Prize.
Obama won the prize because he is actually making an effort to TALK with countries rather than gear up the military every time there any little dispute with another country. I agree with you that Obama probably hasn't done enough yet to really be worthy of the prize, but the decision to give him the award was probably made in part to influence his policy in the future to some degree. Nonetheless I think Obama's willingness to actually talk to countries instead of starting wars with them brings us closer to peace and not further form it. Yes, there's some unavoidable hypocrisy with the war continuing in afghanistan. But what is Obama supposed to do? Bush created this huge monster and now Obama is left trying mostly in vain to clean up the mess. Why is the health care bill "crazy?" Surely you have at least one specific reason why you're against it? Why is the country "going down" because of Obama? I just don't see it. I can understand why you might disagree with some of the things he is doing, but do you really think we had it better under the Bush administration? How could you possibly not see this as an improvement, even if only a marginal one?
It isn't enough that he appears to be "talking." The central question is, "do you think that Obama is being honest in his not-so-apparent desire to resolve the conflicts, or do you think that he's really just putting on a pretension toward that effect?" Based on his actions thus far, I would say that Obama is basically just carrying on with the policies of the previous administration. If he appears to be "talking," it's because he's really just trying to bide his time, so that when he feels that the time is finally right for it, he is going to have a ready-made excuse at-hand, so that when he finally DOES come out and show his real intentions, he is going to have a better way of rationalizing and justifying his actions. Talking is often just a prelude to attacking. During the 19th century, the generals did quite a lot of "talking" to the Indians before wiping them out with aggressive military attacks. I can almost predict what Obama is going to say just before he ups the ante even further. He's going to say that an effort was made to engage in diplomacy, but the diplomacy failed, so now he has no other choice but to send in even more troops. How about withdrawing the troops from Iraq and Afghanistan ? How about stopping all military incursions into Pakistan ?
1. On one hand, I kind of agree with you. There's not a whole lot we can do in Afghanistan since we're up against a bunch of independent fighters with no real leadership, and trying to do it on their own soil. The land is rugged and they know how to use it to their advantage so well that probably the best case scenario for us is a stalemate. We can't "cut off the head" of the resistance because there is no head. We can't just win a battle and force them to admit defeat because even though we might kill a bunch of fighters in this or that part of Afghanistan there are still going to be thousands of others in other parts of the country who basically have no affiliation to the fighters that we just defeated. Unfortunately Americans are obsessed with their pride. They would see a withdrawal as admitting defeat. There is also the fact that most politicians, probably for this reason (well that and the whole national security fiasco) would not support a total troop withdrawal. So if Obama were to try to order one he would be painted as some kind of radical unamerican sissy. And the order would be blocked somewhere along the line anyway. Basically he has no choice because of the sad way in which American politics function. So I ask again - what the hell else is he supposed to do? What CAN he do? Actually, there is probably a more important reason we're not leaving Afghanistan. I"ll get to that in a moment. 2. Pakistan is a tricky barrell of monkeys right now. Unlike Afghanistan, Pakistan has nuclear weapons. Pakistan also has an unstable government as well as a lot of taliban who probably wouldn't mind gaining some control over that government. Now the taliban are obviously gonna be kind of pissed off that we came into afghanistan to throw them out, so the idea of those guys gaining access to nuclear weapons is a little scary. Especially since Bin Laden (assuming he is alive) is almost certainly in Pakistan and has been friendly with the Taliban in the past. IF you ask me this is probably the main reason we're still in Afghanistan right now.
Lets not forget that in order for a politician to be anywhere close to this powerful in the first place he has to please lots of other powerful people. Again, politics is an ugly thing, and you must always assume that somebody as powerful as the president must base his decisions largely on what the public wants and, moreso, what the other powerful people want. I'm not saying this is right or ok by any means. What I am saying is that its a little ridiculous for you to act like this is something Obama in particular is guilty of and just ignore the fact that every other president has done basically the same thing. I will argue that it's not nearly as bad in Obama's case as it was under our last president where the opinions of the masses were ignored and we weren't even allowed to see what exactly our government was doing. I think all Obama is doing is balancing his mostly good-intentioned goals with those of powerful interests as best as he can. The only really honest politician with presidential ambitions I've seen recently is Ron Paul. And, unfortunately, he's insane. Google "Ron Paul race war" if you don't believe me.
It must be really tough to be so much more intelligent and literate than Obama. You should have won the prize instead!
Obama is a fucking drone like the rest of them. Wake up. This is the New America. This guy is only a pawn in a huge game with the goal of world domination. You all know this so stop fooling yourselves. Self dillusion will not help the human race.
