    The GOP strikes back.

Polls here on the east has closed and so far it seems Virginia's governorship has gone to a republican after 10 years of Democrat rule. Though being Virginia that's no real surprise.

New Jersey though, which is normally a solid blue state, going by the current tally:

Looks like is going to come under Republican rule too.

Washington is voting on an "everything but marriage" law for gay couples while Maine is also voting on a full blown gay marriage law.

As for the general mood across the country, well we'll see in a few hours

And Maine rejected the same sex marriage proposal that had passed the state house.

At least Doug Hoffman lost in NY-23. It went Democratic.

Well I'm gonna admit, I haven't followed them too close since they are local elections, but in terms of what I know:

In NY's 23's, there was the standard battle between the Dem Bill Owens and Republican Dede Scozzafana. Dede however was a more liberal republican, pro abortion rights, pro gay marriage, ect. So the New York conservative party fielded Bill Owens. Dede was getting no support from the national Republican party so eventually dropped out to back Bill Ownes. Long story short Bill Owens triumped.

In Jersey, I'll let the victor speak for himself:

Sorry, who was the Incumbent in both the districts?

I'm too tired to Google. I've been working on a 57 page paper. Wait, 58...

Jon Corzine in NJ, in NY and another congressional seat in California both seats were open as each incumbent resigned to take a post in the federal government.
