From what i've seen first hand, I think maintenance is required for keeping dreads round and keeping strong roots. On occasion I think ripping is another chore for maintenance that could be required depending on how big the congo is and what the person does daily.

Personally I'm on my second set of dreads.[First set was 4 years+ old] My current set is only 3 months old [backcomb of course]and I can see great differences between this set and my last set.[also backcombed]
    The things I noticed;
Rubberbands helped my roots a hell ton
Palm rolling is not a myth, flat dreads exist and need to be taken care of
Dreads that split/fall apart should be repaired immediately or they just become worse. You can use anything that binds the hair together, like a bead or aloe.

how does maintenance make your roots strong? seems like any extra fucking with roots will only rip hairs and and make it weaker over all.

obviously maintenance is not necessary when you look at awesome sets of mature natural locks. just depends on how perfect you want them to look.

I've tried prettymuch all these techniques. Elastics did nothing but catch on hair and pull it out. Palm rolling make my dreads look thin and boring, and actually contributed to a ripped front-lock. Root rubbing seems to help a bit to get my loosies in the dread I want, but the roots still need to lock themselves. Lately I've been "palm rubbing" my scalp, which seems to be the best way to tangle hair and make new dreads. As for dreads that are already together and locking, I leave em alone. Lately I've actually been way more "rough" on my dreads during washing and I really like how they're comin along.

All in all: completely unnecessary, but could possibly, maybe help.

    Time is all that's necessary.

    yes

    not so much

maybe maintenance and backcombing have been helpful for you, but necessary? Nope... a choice is a choice.

on the other hand, I guess you could say that it's necessary for what some might call "perfect" dreads. But that's another choice to be made: between "being yourself" and trying to force things to fit into some bullshit category or standard... It's a philosophical difference, not a necessity.

"seems like" so you don't really know for yourself do you?
note: "in my own experience" is in my explanation

Is it really that hard to not click on the thread?
Need me to help you with that?
Do you need a good pop upside the head? Maybe that'll help you with your temptation of clicking on this specific thread?

This reminds me of the time when you were chuffed when we nominated you for an award. Then you flipped out when you realised it was for 'biggest douche'.

when I started my locks I would constantly twist the locs on the left side of my head, mostly because I'm right handed and I'd be using my right hand to write or do other things, and now that side looks way neater than the right side... that said, at this point I don't think any further maintenance is necessary.. or even possible, I can't seem to affect any change on the right side now... it's too late I guess.
    v:)v

I wash my hair regularly and that's about it for maintenance at this point. I'm not sure how my roots lock up.. they just do. My roots know more about locking than I do  I trust them to work it out on their own.

hey man i was just asking how it helps your roots.. I haven't had to do it and my roots are strong like tree trunk.

surely you should have known by now that making this thread would arouse some embers :cheers2:

    Learn to spell "realized"

LOL LOL LOL. i'm glad you bring this up. exposing time! :D
OH, and if i have to dig up the threads for proof on my story.. you better believe I will because you are such an unbelievably irksome little girl I would do anything to stop your negativity.

First of all, lets start out by examining this situation. This is my thread. I was explaining how something worked out in my life. You come in and make a mockery of it. Two posts later; you're bringing up random accusations that aren't even true.

Case and point: The situation you claim was insinuated by none other but you yourself. You posted in another one of my threads where I was trying to talk about dreads [yea.. like you could ever let THAT happen]

You gave your typical mocking comments, whatevski. Couple post's later you're talking about some awards, I check it out.
Here's my exact post "This is how my speech go, I DESERVE THIS SHIT!"
Two things you dont seem to understand about this
1: It's a quote from a song of one of my favorite rappers
2: I already read what the awards were.. why wouldn't I? I mean, I dont post things without reading like.. oh.. wait.. you.

Even funnier, I already explained all these things in the award thread

LMAO wow I bet you'll still think you're some clever bitch still. I hope you learn to be more positive in the future skankapotamus

If you had any intelligence you'd realise that "Realise" is how it's spelt in the UK.
