It seems were ALL missing the point. Basically anyone who see's that your an idiot is missing the point, right.

  2. I don't listen to rap to get angry. I listen to it to remain calm. It's about facing up to certain dangers of life, I think. Acceptance...

I think you're wrong about the rap and classical music part. First off, in the classical music genre, the individual musicians do matter. Although they are not the geniuses who are writing these compositions, they still have to be able to play their instruments well. No one is going to want to listen to a bunch of shitty musicians butcher a great piece of music written by an amazing composer. Anytime you buy a piece of classical music it doesn't JUST say the composer. It usually also says the conductor, and who the group of musicians performing are.

I don't think rap is angry, I guess the lyrics can be a bit angry, but when I listen to rap I pay more attention to the flow and style of the rapper, along with the beats and the music. Some rap is some of the chillest music I've ever heard. Especially when listening to Snoop Dogg. :D By the way, I don't even really listen to rap THAT much. I do occasionally but I'm much more into progressive rock and metal.

However, the majority of bestselling classical performers are really shitty :)

The most profound effects music can have on a person, are never discovered with the intellect...

    They are
experienced by a part of us that perceives the abstract...

No musical genre has any advantage over another in this respect.

I think I've got it. :coolgleamA: Zillagod is basically saying it's not the intelligence of each genre itself but that of the audience, right? So, what that appears to me is that, since Zillagod himself seems to favour classic rock, but also into some jazz, blues, classical, and country, the listeners of those said genres therefore must generally be ignorant!!

Now, I shall wait for Zillagod to tell me I missed the point once again. :D

But dude, that's intelligence at its BEST!!!

Intelligence doesn't necessarily have to involve anything too complex lyrically or musicially. This band is truly intelligent for putting the comedy aspect and modern melodic heavy rock sound(which is otherwise a very "serious" sound) together, and make it all sound this good at the same time. Well, in the case of these guys, the music part isn't necessarily all that simple either in terms of rhythmic structures and such. But you know what I mean. ;)

Well, this isn't the first time I've seen someone make a "statement" without really having a solid backbone, and in turn get "pwned" as the result. A lot of people do this, and the frustrating part is that some of them are also not mentally ready to handle new ideas. They've become too comfortable believing what they believe in, and that creates a bit of a blinding effect.

The whole "rap is crap" thing, for example, is an opinion, and one can certainly feel that way about a certain genre of music that is not one's favorite. Would be nice if one could show respect even to something one doesn't necessarily like, but we all know sometimes that's a BIG challenge. BUT anyway, to question the intelligence of ALL listeners of a genre is pushing it. In the words of Obi-Wan Kenobi "Only the Sith think in absolutes". ;)

Are you kiddin' me? So the reason I like Paganini so much is not the amazing violin technique in his works, but instead that I like him as a person, thus i must like his music??

i would add some subtle insult here but you've already done that to yourself with your original post.

80 percent of which is devoted to sitting on your porch and making conclusions about humanity based on your limited, willfully ignorant sense of how things are.

my experience with the different gene's really don't effect the listener cause one doesn't really have to commit to a gene at all. just listen to what you feel like and its all good who cares what others think music is entertainment and if it entertains you then just let it. no need to start thinking wayy past the type of music and thinking about the music's listener. who cares? listen to what makes you happy
