American spirits suck, I can never seem to get a good hit off of them unless I am drinking. That sucks and it also brings my acid reflux back in a major way. I prefer cheap ones that hit intensely. but I rarely smoke stogies anyway.

If you want to know that you weren't a factor in your death then don't smoke and don't get ran over or killed, be aware. If you don't give a fuck cause you know you are gonna die anyways then toke away.

yeah i'm quitting. i notice things like my taste being dulled and my circulation being a little worse than it used to be. even ignoring the long term health problems, i think i'd just generally feel better if i wasn't pouring smoke into myself (well, tobacco smoke :D)

as part of a massive overhaul to be more aware of how i'm treating my body, i'm going to quit. i've already gone a couple of days without but it's not even the nicotine that's the issue, i've just spent so much time having a cigarette while walking down the street, or during my breaks between classes, that it's gonna take a fuckin' effort to not give in to that. i'm not going to say "never again" but i'm done buying packs/rolling tobacco regularly.

    gah.

See, I think smoking is okay if you're not overdoing it. When I was taking cigs from my mom (before I got somewhat busted), I was smoking at least 10-20 times a day at the least, in addition to black & milds, or Swisher cigars. Now? I smoke 2-6 cigs or smoker's choice cigars a day, and no more.

Granted, this is my first year of smoking (started around March or so), and I feel almost the same. The one thing I haven't been doing as much is working out, but when I do, I'm able to go through the whole work out, and I don't get exhausted quickly.

Basically, my point is, if you want to smoke, go ahead, it's your choice, just don't overdo it. People smoking two or three packs of cigs a day by themselves are ensuring cancer. If you don't overdo it, your chances are up, but not by much, says this observer. Maybe I'm wrong? But that's how I see things.

    naw i don't think you're wrong.

but watch out, for sure man. i started smoking like one cigarette a day in my junior year of high school and held that pretty consistently through my senior year. i started college this year and since i've been getting more money i've been smoking way more than i used to be comfortable with, i didn't even see it happening i just wanted more and smoked more without really thinking. shit creeps up on you even if it's been a while since you've been keeping it in check, you know?

I was the same way. I started smoking earlier this year, and it went from one cig a day to two to three and then above. But now I'm back down to a few today, and when I have money I may buy a pack, but I usually tend to make them last for two to three days. That way I'm not going overboard with smoking and I'm not spending more money.

i used to smoke a lot.... for four years since i was 16. i felt that it wasn't affecting my health because i would quit on and off.

then about 9 months ago i sold my car and bought a bike for transport. i couldn't go 20 miles in one go. I'd be coughing and spitting brown mucous. I biked everyday(and i still do) and after about a month of that i quit tobacco and weed. it took about another month for my lungs to clear up and i stopped spitting up brown stuff.

these days i can do 100+ miles in one day. thats half before lunch and half after lunch. i'm not saying its impossible, but i definitely wouldn't be able to do that if i'd kept smoking. show me a regular smoker who can keep up with me on a bike and i'll gladly concede. i'll never go back.

ps- smokers are cool and i like hanging out in the smokers circle, just chatting and whatnot.

I don't think weed really affects lungs all that much, since it has none of the toxins like tobacco. It's a plant.

And as far as I know, lungs only get like that if you're a heavy smoker, which means smoking pack after pack after pack each day.

yeah it does, just look at the end of the butt when you finish smoking.
Bud does, I know because I smoke a lot and after even an ounce, smoking day after day my lungs hurt and I can't breathe as well.
Marijuana is a plant, yes. But so is tobacco.(Although I know it has chemicals added and herb doesn't)

Maybe it's just me & my friend, but we've been smoking weed a lot and we haven't noticed an inability to breathe or anything of the sort. I have noticed I may not be able to run like I used to (though I can still do strenuous activity), but that's due to cigarettes mostly.

All in all, lung cancer is something I wouldn't wish on my worst enemy, and it's something I hope I don't get. In all likelihood, once I reach adulthood and I'm living in my own house, I'll probably try cutting out cigarettes for a while and give myself a little recovery time. During that time I'll also probably start eating a lot more healthy & exercise as much as possible to speed up said recovery.

Btw, I know fresh air doesn't heal the effects of smoking or anything, but if you're at least getting some type of fresh air daily won't that help your lungs in general?

hmmm, well there really is no way to heal damaged lungs. you only get one pair of lungs and the scar tissue they grow will never go away no matter how much "fresh air"(if you live in a city, just think for a second how fresh your air is with all the cars and industrial buildings putting out fumes) you breathe.

the lungs will not sweep away non-water soluble tar or breakdown damaged tissue. it may take years and year and years for new and healthy tissue to grow where affected tissue had once been and for your body to breakdown dead tissue and dispose of it through waste management.

the fact about weed is that though it may not cause cancer like cigarettes, you're still hurting your lungs. burning organic material like cellulose is harmful to your body. you're ultimately better off vaporizing, which may or may not heal your lungs.

a stitch in time saves nine.

what i mean by this is... if you damage a pair of jeans and then stitch them up right as it happens the tear wont open any worse and you save nine stitches in the future. so, if you quit now and never pick up a cigarette again then you've effectively forgone emphysema and a lung transplant in the future.

your plan to give yourself recovery is, at best, short-sighted and half-assed. dont kid yourself that quitting for a while to eat healthy will prevent disease and cancer. it may take years to get your cancer risk to baseline after smoking for just a short period. ultimately it is much more rewarding for yourself and your unborn children to be as healthy as possible and as mentally strong as one can be. if you plan to quit, then once you do, never pick up a cigarette again. if you plan only to take a break from smoking then start buying cigarettes in wholesale so you can save some money for healthcare.

but please, smoke. just don't kid yourself that you're not ingesting poison. and if you are smoking, then smoke hand-rolling tobacco and not that chemically adulterated super-addictive fool's poison that multi-billion dollar corporations(evil) are marketing to you. because you're paying twice as much for marlboro and a lot of that money goes to paying of politicians to keep this stuff legal, to paying off greedy research institutions to produce false reports that say cigarettes are not harmful or aren't nearly as harmful as we think, to paying off out-of-court settlements from cancer patients who have themselves spent nearly as much on cigarettes in their lifetime as they have on sugar, to buying billboards and magazine ads advertising the coolness and none of the addictiveness, and the taxes on cigarettes that the government uses to keep you poor and uneducated in hopes of having a population of ignorant consumer whores who buy anything advertised on tv or sold at the check-out counter.

You are if you think smoking marijuana doesn't have an effect on the health of your lungs and your ability to breathe. I smoke a lot, of both, and I can tell you they both have a huge impact, lungs definatley get heavier if you smoke marijuana, especially if you smoke tobacco as well.

I'm not sure why you can't cut down now if you think you will be able to in the future?

I didn't say weed doesn't effect you at all, just that not to the extent of tobacco where it can cause cancer. I smoke weed too, and my lungs don't feel heavier at all.

I don't feel the need to quit now, and I don't want to. Things may change overtime, so we'll see then. But for now, I'll continue to smoke daily.

im pretty sure models take much bigger cig hits for some reason, i was at this fashion week event thing in NYC and i noticed literaly all the models were smoking and they would always suck for quite a few seconds per hit and sometimes burn away like a quarter of the cig in one drag
