Doc visit

Well I finally broke down and decided to see a dr. about my anxiety instead of buying benzo's off the street. The visit went pretty well and he prescribed me some xanax 25 .5's I know gonna have to tell him to up the mg's but my concern is he also prescribed me zoloft. I told him I have no depression but I do have high social anxiety, and slight panic disorder. He told me xanax is a good med. for this but is also highly addictive so he mixed in the zoloft and I'm afraid to take it. I already know benzo's are all I need b/c I've taken them off and on for yrs, and they cause a major difference in my behavior.

So should I just take the xan's and tell my doc the depression meds aren't helping and he needs to up the benzo dose or do something I said I'd never do and take depression meds.

 

the zoloft made my insomnia worse when i still took doctors meds (i was given them for anxiety also) i never was put on xanax before so i'm not sure how they mix when you're taking them for actual anxiety.

Yes first time and it was a walkin clinic, he told me he was gonna refer me to a psychiatrist so hopefully I can up my doseage.

 

Yea that's what he told me too, is that zoloft helps anxiety, but I just never heard of that. It's like he wants me to take 50mgs of zoloft and .5 mg's a day xanax (which isn't gonna work because i've had this problem for years just never got any help for it) and 25 .5's I could eat the whole bottle almost.

 

yea don't take that fuckin shit.

take the xanax, try 1mg a day, and go back when its gone.

 

zoloft is approved for the treatment of depression with or w/o anxiety, and OCD [which is an anxiety disorder]...so it is supposed to help anxiety.

if you really have an anxiety problem zoloft might help without even needing benzos.

but benzos are fun, so you'd probably rather stick to those...

 

Any side affects? cuz I like benzos and would love to stick to those but dr. said he would start me off on xan's and taper down and move to strictly the zoloft. I was just wandering if this would be a good idea an stick with it and just get my xan's on tha corner

 

Im all for anything that consists of smoking marijuana but as a sufferer of anxiety i can tell u ffist hand that sometimes(especially certain types) weed makes it worse. Sometimes it speeds my heart up and makes me feel weird awkward in social settings. Maybe its not your problem but its worth a shot.

I've had this problem since before I smoked weed, and actually weed was only thing helpin me cope, still had physical problems but it eased my mental anxiety a little. I just don't think zoloft will help me with my anxiety, I want more xanax b/c I already know they work.

 

dr also wants me to get a thryoid check, when I know that;s not it, I get panicy around ppl and too nervous to socialize to where my body trembles sometimes. Also I"ve been harassed by numerous cops asking me why I'm shaking and even though I tell em it's a tremor they continue to field sobriiety test me, which is embarassing

 

shermin was right, there are a couple SSRIs approved for the treatment of social anxiety specifically. if you're looking for something that might help and you're into taking meds, give it a shot.

give it some time. if you don't find what you're looking for, tell your doc and try something else.

 

yeah i got a bad problem with shaky hands too. My anxiety was first named such when i was around 12. Although i can remember having these feelings all the way back to kindergarden. It would get to the point where my nerves were so bad i would literally vomit and have compulsive cramping just out of the fear of going to school. I still battle it. Not on any meds right now. Xanax and valuim are the only 2 things ive found that help but doctors have a problem writing these to people under the age of 30. And if they do its usually a very low mg and i end up running out way before its time to refill. I hate when they try to prescribe long term meds like paxil and zoloft. For one these meds take months to work(if they work for u at all) and if after a few months they dont work docs then go screwing with the dosage or they give u a whole other med to try and tell u to come back in a month. Its bullshit that i have a serious medical condition that affects my day to day life but because of people that abuse this medication and my age i cant get the meds i really need.

Well he's definitely gonna have to up the dose, I have to take atleast 4 or 5 for my body trembling stops, my hands tremble constantly but I almost go in convulsion when a cop messes with me. I been drawin unemployment/sidejobs a month and all I do is sit at home mostly just b/c I'm afraid to go out, and I'm not scared of ppl but socializing gives me high anxiety especially if it's ppl I don't know. When I first started noticing it I was probably about your age, and I can read just fine but in but in speechclass my voice would crack/tremble whole body would tremble, but I never knew I suffered from this disorder.

Also if you have any stories of meds that helped you lemme know, b/c the only thing I've found is benzo's, so shoot me a pm if u wanna chat about it. tks for your help

 

I well I'm not so much into meds anymore I just want something meds or no meds to help me and make it feel that I knowa and can function a normal day to day life, but tks everyone appreciate your help

 

oh yeah that's what i meant, there's nothing wrong with trying out medication. but what i'm saying is, don't discount something before you try it, i know SSRIs have helped people a lot with social anxiety.

 

zoloft might make you go completely insane...if you take it and get "manic" symptoms from it stop taking it immediately...

it also might work...

 

I feel your pain im in pretty much the same boat as you apart from the fact i cant find a doctor to prescribe me benzos, all they want to do is feed me SSRI's even when i explain to doctors that i can get such bad anxiety attacks that my body will start to lock up & i feel like im dying.

My anxiety issues are not a day to day thing mainly because i choose to stay inside away from society most days but when i do go out it becomes an unpredictable issue where sometimes i can handle it and others im a total mess. I have not worked for about 10 months now other than a job i had for 2 days but had to quit due to the job making my anxiety unbearable, working in an outbound call center was a BAD idea. Sadly the only sort of work ive done for the last 3-4 years is call center work so its near impossible to find any other sort of job.

I can understand why you dont want to take the zoloft ive used anti depressants before and they just made me feel insane but the other side of it is you cant use benzos forever to control your anxiety issues, its not an easy situation to be in at all!

Well whatever I can find that works, I like benzos, who doesn't, but I also actually need anxiety meds. Without them I'm afraid to go out socialize, I've noticed it since I was 13 but after going through opiate withdraw and moving somewhere where I don't know anyone seems to have made it 100x worse. I'm gonna try the zoloft since the replies here are positive and negative, but I've noticed my hands are trembling again b/c I ran outta my xan script in two days b/c it took 4 to stop shaking. tks for the support everyone, I'm tired of ppl thinkin I got alzheimers when it's just high anxiety

 

I would keep the xanax and not take the zoloft. SSRI's really fuck with you and make you into a zombie. that being said benzo's do turn you into a zombie to a slightly lesser degree.
