Went Christmas shopping accidentally spent 300 squids.

I could do with some phototard advice. Basically I got my dad a generic (tamron) lens 70-300mm for his cannon D-whatever, then I went through his photobag and found he has a 50-250mm cannon lens. Now when I asked the shop boy if the focal length was 35mm equivalent he said yes, and then proceeded to say he thinks the multiplication factor for most cannons is 1.6,. So I took it that he actually meant "No, that's the actual focal length and you need to multiply it my 1.6 for 35mm equiv" in which case this is a effectively a 110 - 480mm.

So now we get round to the point which is, considering he likes to think he's reasonably artistic but doesn't actually seem to know or care about most of the technical aspects of photography do you think he would benefit from having such a lens, considering it's only real advantage over what he has is to take photo's of things that are fucking miles away, or wildlife.

**Edit, apparently it has this cool macro switch too so I'll probably keep it.

So yesterday I was lookin around for some herb with a buddy, and we were walking up to a bros house to pick up. On the way I couldn't stop thinking about a certain place in town, called gerow island. Turns out buddy has none, and we go for a walk with him to find some. So we meet up with another friend outside a restaurant and he mentions that he has some "truffles". I inquire curiously about them, and he says we should come over to have a look. We proceed to his house... on gerow island;), and he shows us this 10g bag of "Atlantis" truffles he ordered from europe. I say I only have $20, but he sells em to me for that. Pretty interesting: turns out that they are also known as philosophers stones, like the ones you buy in amsterdam!

So that was pretty cool, as earlier that morning I had been mentioning that I wanted to find an opportunity for an experience:D Anyway, I didn't have enough for the other two people I had in mind, and decided I wanted to find more. Later I was going through my herb collection and lo and behold - a bag of psilocybin mushroom powder. Wowzas! So that was uber-noice as well, as I'm not the kind of guy who usually just has these things lying around.

All in all, a bunch of cool "coincidences" leading to acquiring mushies that I figured I'd share. Pretty stoked to go voyaging this weekend.:cheers2:

Currently listening to melting euphoria: they kickass.

    hmmmmm...

i rode my bike for 2 hours and then went to the gym and did squats. my legs are burning, feels goooood.

now i'm sitting in my pajamas redesigning the label for a popular barbecue sauce. flexing my graphic design skills on some outdated products, expanding my portfolio, eating eggs and meat.

later i'm going to work and then to a party...wooooooo!

pypes- i am somewhat of a phototard. i would suggest that it probably isn't worth giving your dad the tamron.. if he already has the canon 50-250 and if it's possible for you to return/exchange the lens. i don't think the macro buzz outweighs the fact that the range of the lens is pretty much the same as the one he already has. and the canon brand are usually marginally better than generics. maybe you could get a lens with a different range, or a 'novelty' lens like a fisheye (depends what kind of photography he's into obviously). or a remote control or some filters or a tripod or a new camera bag? anyway that's my two cents.

today i got up early to mind my wee cousin while my aunt went to the doctor. ran for 40 minutes, sprayed some wood crafty bits with a protective finish and am now listing some bits on ebay. fairly exciting all around.

Took the streetcar downtown to workout at the fitness club that I work at.

Then ate some sushi at this hole in the wall across the street from the club. The waiter started talking to me about how is son is about to "get dreads" and it's going to take about 5 hours to put them in so I told him that it took me about 6 months  I felt bad that I didn't educate him as much as I maybe should have, but I was too focused on my spicy scallop roll...

Then took BART to my parent's to pick up a package for the my little woman and had an interesting conversation with my pops about all the gnarly industrial chemicals that are in most hygiene products, coincidentally there was a bar of Dr. Bronners baby-mild from my sister (who my parents just visited in New Mexico) waiting with the package.

Then on the way home my enjoyable day of public transportation was shattered by a bus driver who was anything but smooth with his gassing and breaking. :frown:

well woke up late again. only had a little trouble breathing sooo thats a plus! went to work and it was packed. had a boat load of dishes to clean as soon as i got in and didnt even get to sit down till after my shift was over. i cant stand in one spot for a very long period of time.... my legs get numb and my chest and face start tingling. after that i went to the coffee bar and figured out that my girl friend was busy in the next town over and was unable to see me :( but no worries cause my friend who i havnt seen in a good while walked in and we decided to chill all day. now we're back at his house doing drugs and about to click "Post Quick Reply".
