Sounds more like a music movement founded by hippies.
What are they promoting? What is their "cause?"

hmm. I dont think these people have to do with the old hippies.. I believe that they dont have a specific cause. If somebody knows more it would be great to tell us :)

I do think a new hip movement in the world would be good, the only problem is not enough cats are interested in joining in one, not to mention getting it started. If you want to get some ideas on how to begin one check out the Tao Te Ching, it happens to be one of the most hip books out there. More power to your idea and hope to see some changes :)

You don't just set up a meeting and go "Ok, were here to sign up for the ride."
Something has to blow up. People have to just say fuck it and do their own thing.
It wouldn't just be decided consciously.

I agree, everyone's just to busy with the many distractions we have in our lives (sadly =[ )

I would love to be apart of a new movement

You mean "a part"... You are saying you want to be apart from not a part of.

I'd totally be joining a new movement!
In the spirit of non violence, love, music and reconnecting with nature and our true selves, sounds absolutely fabulous!!
Sadly, I live in a small country called Holland (but lest we forget amsterdam was a hippy capital and still is at times!), so where the hell would I get enough people to come together?
I have some friends who would be interested, and my boyfriend would too I think, but thats like.. maybe 20 people?
I mean I've been wanting to go to a rainbow gathering or something the like for ages, but it's too far away from home. And I think there are more of us with that problem even in America. So if something's happening its supposed to be reachable for anyone. Globally.

Since this is already a global community indeed, I don't think it will trigger a new movement or change much if we would get together one time. But it could be fun for sure.

It is possible for us hippies to band together, and make this movement reality. All we need to do is be as one,and stand up for what we believe in.

Agreed. Even in my tiny little canadian town I have tons of "hippie" friends, and I meet more everywhere I go. There are a lot of us out there:D

    This is very true.

All we need to do is be as one... but which one?

Will everyone please be as me, now, so we can get this movement underway?

Wait, you don't want to be like me, because I eat meat? Well.... okay, lets all be like my buddy Stan.

Okay, you don't want to be like Stan, because Stan doesn't believe in doing drugs. Let's see... lets all be like Abbie Hoffman!

Oh, wait, Abby was political and radical and got beat up a lot. I would prefer not to do that.

Gee, this is hard. Which one are we all going to be like and what will we all believe in?

    </facitious off>

This is why it will never work, the way things are right now. There is no real, solid cause that everyone can undeniably get behind. In the 60's, it was the repressive times, and these times are not repressive at all. Look at all the kids out there being unique as they can imagine. Piercings, tatoos, sex, no sex, radical hair styles, no hair. You name it, someone is doing it. What is there to rebel against? There isn't even a draft.

The original hippies were like brown rice, completely organic. No one had to say, "Hey, c'mon everybody, lets have us a movement!" The time was right and it just happened, organically. If and when the time is again right, it will just happen again. Until then, it's all just nostalgia and people doing what they can where they are.

And maybe that's enough, for now.

corporate greed is exploiting our home planet to death. if the survival of our species, of ALL species, isn't enough of a Cause to bring "hippies" together then i don't know what Cause would be enough. **shrug**

but don't forget to recycle because recycling your foam egg carton makes a big difference when mega corporations are pumping MILLIONS of TONS of TOXINS and HEAVY METALS into the Earth's air, water and soil every year.

Yeah there are alot of young and old hippies on this site man. If we all got together we might be able to get somethin' started, but that'd take alot of work, question is are the people who want this to happen actually willing to put in that time and effort?

Indy Hippy,I may not speak for every hippie, but I can speak for myself, and I am willing to make the changes we need to help fix the world's view on everything that we hippies are "fighting" to have changed.

I am reminded of the recent SNL skit where Keenan plays some kind of an economic advisor being questioned on a talk show, or the news. Every time he's asked what must be done to get this country out of it's economic jam, he shouts "FIX IT!"

What would you fix and how would you fix it?
In the words of the immortal Beatles, "We'd all love to hear your plan."

Well perhaps one of the first things we would need to fix in order to begin on the path toward realizing a dream like this, is the distinction between religion, art, and science. So many modern people try to show these three things as separate entities, but in reality they are one and the same with different faces. If we could meld these three together think of all the wars and problems that would no longer arise.
