Hi everyone. I live in New Zealand but I am heading to San Jose in July next year to do some voluntary work for 6 months. Any tips or things to look out for would be greatly appreciated! What are the locals like? Good surf and scuba diving? Whats the weather like from July onwards? Is there good coke and pot? How much does it cost and is it easy to find? Thanks in advance, Eddie
Hi boras The people in Costa Rica is great, friendly and relaxed. surf is great, witches rock, playa negra, Hermosa, Salsa brava there are countless point all over the pacific and atlantic. Weather in July will be rainy in San Jose and the pacific. summer time on the Atlantic, october rains all over the country. good and cheap coke. bad, regular and great pot at chaep, regular and expensive prices

Check out couchsurfing.com to make some friends to stay with, I ended up hanging out with some very cool CR people who I'm still in contact with Good surf and scuba diving? *very very good surfing, specifically on the north western coast in places like Manzanilla but there are opportunities all over the country! There are some islands (Cano Island is pretty known for its scuba) with great scuba diving too, although if I were you I'd drop down to Isla Colon in Bocas del Toro, Northern Panama for scuba diving because it's easier to get to and has incredible diving! Lots of tropical fish and reefs and corals Whats the weather like from July onwards? *not sure about this one, google it! Is there good coke and pot? How much does it cost and is it easy to find? *pot is pretty cheap, coke costs as much in Canada unfortunately (in my experience), around $60-80 a gram. Try to argue them down on prices for coke, say you have another guy who has it cheaper and sometimes you can get them to bring it down. Both can be very good or very bad quality, so ask for a finger-dip test (rub it on your gums) with the coke ALWAYS and ask to see the weed before you buy it. Both are widely available, honestly it sounds racist but on the west coast at least, just look for the rasta-looking guys and almost all of them will be able to either sell you what you want or hook you up with someone who can! oh yes he said that there was plenty of pot around,but it was mostly swagg. He ended up getting some freinds to bring him a couple of pounds of some dynamite weed,but this was a long time ago way before 9/11 good luck enjoy your trip!
