i wondered if i was the only barefooter that when in distress tends to find refuge into his own shoes. let's face it, if you don't feel quite right you also may want to avoid confrontation and get into arguments or just plain get looks. not everyone has the same nerve, not all the time, and places do differ. i'm curious about knowing if I'm the only black sheep here since yes, when I am seriously headed for storm i empty the closet to draw my old heavy leather boots
Yeah, there are times I don't want to risk confrontation. If I'm meeting friends after work, I don't want to mess up a good thing by being denied service because I'm barefoot. Even then I'll just slip on minimal flip-flops (weather-permitting, not in the winter!). For doctor's visits I usually at least wear flip-flops - I don't want someone I'm trusting with my healthcare to get an attitude. Sometimes I just don't feel like risking the confrontation and will put on barefoot sandals or flip-flops. If I'm in the mood (which is essentially always!) and it's just me or just me and my wife, it's a different story. Bare soles on bare floors!
I have a pretty ferocious internal critic, so I can be depresed for all sorts of wild reasons, which usually affects my inclination to roam barefoot. Yes, conformity is a GREAT comfort; cover up, blend in, conform. God bless the 1950s........
I don't own any shoes except an old pair of safety boots which I keep for the 'just in case' situations; so I don't have that choice. But yes I think sometimes it would be good to look conventional for those confrontations when you fear someone may not take you seriously or judge you based upon appearance.
My mood doesn't force me to put on shoes. In fact, I tend to care less when I'm in a bad mood. However, if I have a fever or am just recovering from one (a day or two afterwards, say), I will put on shoes or flip flops when it's not warm outside (say around 10C or 50F).
I have found myself chickening out more at walmarts than at any other place. Wal Marts are the only place that anyone says anything to me -- and that's rare. When I go barefoot, I much prefer Dollar General, and now I am finding that grocery stores are more laid back -- especially Aldi. If I'm just going barefoot to enjoy barefootin, and I chicken out, I don't even go in. But if I really need something, and I don't feel like a hassle, I'll put on shoes.
if my mood is not good after coming home from work, i find being able to take my shoes and socks off and go barefoot improves my mood a lot
Wearing shoes because of my mood wouldn't have occurred to me if I hadn't seen this thread. Sometimes I briefly wonder if I may have to explain my bare feet somewhere, or I sigh at the comments I get -in spite of the very few truly negative comments we get here in the Netherlands- but except for a couple times during my first year and the few days when it's really freezing, I never go as far as to consider wearing or even taking along shoes, not even flipflops.
yeah nah maby if im a little grumpy ill walk over some rocks, the jaged edges stabing me make me smile its the little things that lighten my day, and over here i go every were evan out to dinner if the let me in, depends on the venuie, peace
Same here! It's been discouraging to have to wear shoes in Walmart. I did end up quitting shopping for myself at Walmart all together when I jammed my Mainstays (Walmart store brand) paper shredder and it broke - all because the teeth of one plastic gear deformed. I have jammed a better quality shredder before, with all metal gears inside, and I've found that it doesn't break down if I turn it off/unplug it immediately, take it apart, clear the jam, and put it back together again. I wish I hadn't given it to my sister. But anyway, the point is that because of my Walmart being barefoot unfriendly and because of its cruddy quality, I no longer shop there. (I'll go there for other people, but they're not getting another dime of MY money!)
