Scottish people are generally fairly positive towards Americans from what I've seen. My future brother in law is from the western US and has had no problems there.
I'm surprised that the Scots have any time to hate anyone, with the amount of self-loathing which goes on up there.
There is nothing worse than Aberdonian slang. Cringeworthy. Not like us refined Edinburgh folk. (I'm a leither really...)
Northern England is pretty damn militant actually - take, for example, the 80's Liverpool council, under control of Militant Tendency! Compare that to the attitudes you find in some of the posher bits of Edinburgh, and you'll see that its a bit of a misnomer to describe Scotland as that. It bugs me as it is what leads to the likes of the SSP calling for an independent Scotland, which in my eyes would be counter-productive. To the OP: Scotland isn't too different from the rest of the UK really, and is also a big enough place for it to be better to specify where you want to go. I wouldn't wish the delights of Drumchapel or Easterhouse on anyone, but there are other places worlds away from it in the same country. As an interesting aside, that the life expectancy of a man from Drumchapel is a full 17 years lower of a man from the Gaza strip!
I've spent many any years living on this island, from the fartherst reaches of the Highlands to the hustle and bustle of the metropolian. As a general rule, the farther away from London you go, the friendlier it gets. There is no truth to the rumour that Scottish people eat Americans, we only hate Donald Trump. So long as you don't run around in tartan troosers you'll be fine. If you go to Edinburgh the hippy places to hang about are The Forest and the Bongo Club.
lol, northern England less left wing than Scotland, lol Liverpool is the only place I never visited, so maybe people are freaking out there while people remain straight from Manchester to Newcastle.
Northern England is just as left wing as large swathes of Scotland. People only have this idea of lefty scots as Glasgow is the biggest city in Scotland and has had a very active left wing history
i love scotland! dunno about the people but the scenery is beautiful, i would move there just for that!!!
The landscape gets more stunning the further north you get - and the people are, one the whole, fantastic. I've had some great times in Scotland.
