im not a big one for remembrance day, its too politicized. im all for helping, dealing with, listening to and respecting old folks for the shit they went through (in canada there's not a lot of young vets around), but i have a hard time when remembrance day is used to continue justifying fighting, killing, and dying today. i hate how it turns into a day for propaganda. and yeah, people definitely did NOT walk away from WWII "unscathed"... there were plllenty of fucked up folks hanging around all over the world after that shit.
I like veteran's day for some reason. I wish my pap was still around. He always told me stories of when he was in the Korean war and showed me pics and stuff.
^^ yeah? that's super interesting. my grandfather was born in Indonesia, and was about 6 when the Japanese came in and he was a POW for 6 years. some crazy stories he had to tell us... and said he'd never forget the can of powdered milk an american gave him when they were released... he ran and ran and ran into a cave somewhere, opened it, and just downed that fuckin powder.
so interesting... he wrote a version of his memoirs just for the family before he died, and called it "Powdered Milk", hehe.
There was a huge fight yesterday at the Remembrance Day Assembly at my school. Some kids made a "anti remembrance" day group on facebook were you don't stand andbe silent for the moment of silence. Only like 3 kids didnt be quiet or anything. This one kid started making farting noises and whistling and then all of a sudden this other kid who was beside him punched him right out. One shot K.O It was fuckin' SICK.
I rode bikes with a vet yesterday. He just got back from Iraq earlier this summer. He was stoked because he got a free carwash and free dinner at Applebees ha ha.
