I say people these days could learn a thing or two about respect! Anyone else love going to the theatre to see a movie for the thrill of seeing it while it's still fresh, the great popcorn with the synthetic butter, the big screen, the darkness, the the surround sound and the 'making an evening of it'... but hate their fellow movie goers? This week I dared go see a popular movie at the cinema. I never fail to be amazed at the balls people have when it comes to being noisy throughout the movie. Angry "shh's!" used to work but now people don't even bother. They join in. It's like this understanding that strangers can communicate with each other from all sections of the seats about their feelings towards the movie at any given time! They loudly and stupidly answer questions asked by characters in the films before those guys have a chance and while I try to remain focused and engaged. To assume that I would want to hear what they have to say to their friends about it is arrogance at it's best. Amazingly enough, I and usually the person/people I tend to see movies with manage to stay quiet for the entire two hours, save for some appropriate giggles shared with the audience and whispers when absolutely necessary. It's quite simply about being AWARE of others. The Golden Rule is not something I easily forget but I can only assume that it's not something engrained into the mindsets of most folks these days. I can't even say that it's only kids who are guilty of this. When my head swiveled in a purposeful, angry way I was met by the faces of 30something year olds. The only time I can see a movie with a respectful and mature audience is when I see them at the alternative theatres. Or, of course, if I choose to see a serious political film or documentary of some sort. But sometimes a person like wants to see the latest Hollywood hit and do some shopping at the mall while I'm at it! Sometimes those films are quality, too. Those 3 somewhat similar, yet charming, warnings about cell phone chimes they show before starting the feature are all very well but I would appreciate them taking these other disruptions a little more seriously, ie staff taking action when people are out of order. But apparently it's perfectly acceptable. I would almost rather a phone go off - it's, what, a couple of distracting rings quickly silenced by someone's jacket? The talking is ongoing. I just want to strangle people who try so hard to ruin my movie viewing experience. But I'll probably just wait for the DVDs.
agree entirely. the 90s generation is doing this more than ever tho, imo. people though, in general, are extremly inconsiderant, and selfish.
this is why i go to the luxury screens or suites. the ticket is more expensive and there are greatly less people.
I am glad to hear some agreement. I assume some of the members here are guilty of the very thing I was whining about, given how common it seems to be. But, dude, it is so not hip.
I very seldom go to the movies, for all those reasons. The last movie I went to was the Lord of the Rings, a bunch of people were texting during the whole movie Whats the point of going if your not going to pay attention? I just stay home and wait till it comes out in video now, less aggravating.
i wish the popcorn man was real, i hate odious bastards at the movies. please people, shut off your phones and close your mouths at the theatre.
i totally feel your pain i went to a movie this weekend and i was one of the first people in the theater and so im sitting there normally with my legs crossed and this chick comes in and sits in the seat in front of me and starts rocking or bouncing the seat causing her chair to hit my foot. Now i'm not kicking her seat shes literally hitting my foot. she turned around twice like being all pissy and i was like youre hitting me stop rocking gosh she was such an idiot but yea finally i just uncrossed my legs but she was about 40 years old and the only person in the theater rocking/bouncing her seat was this fair no i was at the theater long before her i really wanted to take the gum out of my mouth and put it in her ridiculously short hair but i refrained i really should have though
People are dumb and loud on average... either learn to deal with it or don't go to the movies. I usually don't go simply because it's so ridiculously overpriced.
It's bullshit that people don't respect the fact that some movies NEED to be seen on the big screen and they can't control themselves. When I was a kid ,there were ushers with flashlights that they would shine on people screwing up or carrying on.Do it a couple of times and you soon saw yourself looking at the outside of the theater.I 'spose they'd get beat up nowadays.
to be honest i am guilty of munching my popcorn too loud...sometimes i eat with my mouth open...very bad habit...
don't even get me started on movie theaters. once i start ranting about this, i most likely will never stop!
