Hi, I'm Casey, and I'm new here. I recently started writing a petition attempting to ban fetal pig and cat dissections in public schools in my county. Even the idea of doing this is just completely unethical, and these animals are treated terribly while they are raised, only to be unnecessarily killed and placed in classrooms. I'm wondering what other people think of the idea of both this practice, and of my idea to petition against it.
well i thought the same at first but honestly most of the animals used are still-born or have died already. so to ban it totally seems a bit much to me but i would definetly support certain restrictions
Well, if the animals are being specifically bred for the purpose of being used for dissections in public schools, then I would say it is unethical, and would support your petition. Because generally animals bred for that type of thing are treated badly. The only way I would find it acceptable is if the animals werent being bred for that, and the animals were already dead. If either of those things isnt the case, than I would agree that it is unethical.
I can't complain about animal death for science and educational purposes (Cosmetics. Do. Not. Count.). The alternative is human cadavers, and there aren't enough of those for schools now. I assume they are bred for the purpose, to ensure demand is met.
