http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/6424937.stm couple in germany met when they were 23 had some children, the children have been taken off them they have been jailed, the thing is their brother and sister if incest is bad because of genetic problems why not jail disabled people who have children knowing their children will be disabled , if its bad because of social reasons how would this apply to this case .
The whole thing is just ridiclous, they're not hurting anybody, it's an affair between two concenting adults, there is no abuse at all.. Incest is so often vilified because it is associated with child abuse, thats not the case here. As for genetic problems in children they may have I don't know how great the chance of that is.. It's a bad idea on their part to have children in any case because of the social stigma that will be placed on them.. Go after the pedophiles, and leave concenting adults alone IMHO.. Peace
I think the general taboo against sibling sex is a good one because there are genetic problems caused by it , also I think if your brought up together its a different thing from not knowing that the other persons your sibling then finding out. really i think these people did the wrong thing having kids , I think really they did the wrong thing having sex in that although they were not brought up as brother and sister they found out they were before having sex . I remember on tv years ago seeing a family all deformed in wheelchairs and the parents had a genetic disease where they knew their kids would have the genetic disease, and I thought that was pretty selfish having children you knew were going to end up like that, I can understand they wanted children but I think the outcome is just more deformed sick children . its hard to draw the line personally I think I might keep the law against incest if the people involved know at the time the other persons their sibling, and I might make it illegal for people with very bad genetic conditions to have children, thats harsh and Im not sure where Id draw the lines but it may be for the greater long term good . Id go along with the whatever floats boats thing if they didn't have children
Part of me understands what you are saying, but part of me disagrees so much. Just because you are in a wheelchair, or you have a disability, doesn't mean that they can't have happy productive lives, impact others, love and be loved. I don't know anything about the odds of having children with problems, if you're related, so I can't really give a full opinion on that. But they aren't hurting anyone. I don't agree with it (for me personally) but like I said... There's a lot of worse things in the world. I think we should be more concerned with people who really deserve to be in jail. And you said the children have been taken from them? Why? Because they have two parents that love them? It's more then likely better for them to be with their parents, who knows where they could end up in the foster care system.
The odds of having children with disabilities are exponentially increased. It's not fair on the child. If it's born it shouldn't be treated differently but it really shouldn't happen in the first place. Anyone who has 23 children should have them taken, you can't look after that many properly.
Where did you come up with 23 children If you read the exasperatingly long artical it said they have 4, and all seem healthy, idk it still seems to me that a concenting realtionship between siblings is not hurting anybody, but they still should have refrained from having children in the first place.. Peace
Excessive inbreeding (like royal families or isolated communities) has a significant chance of increasing disability or conditions. But now a days, the gene pool is wide enough for everyone to swim with whom they want. Should African folk not breed for fear of sickle cell? Maybe we should all be genetically tested for gene compatibility.
Are you asking me ?? Well I imagine I "could" I mean it is physically possible, I'd much rather just pee in her bath water though, I don't like her anymore, she's just mean.. Peace
maybe specific africans or anyone else carrying a genetic illness shouldn't have children and maybe we should be tested for gene compatibility. it may seem harsh and I don't know that much about sickle cell but maybe you should measure the unhappiness of the individuals not having children against all the millions who wont get a specific illness
I think in some cases it would be the responsible thing for couples aware that they are likely to pass on congenital diseases to their offsrping not to have children, and doctors should advise people of this. Not all congenital diseases are the same, some are more dangerous or more likely to be passed on, and I don't think we should get into the area of legislating who should and should not have children because that takes us into the dangerous area of eugenics. Can people with hereditary diseases have meaningful, happy and productive lives? In many cases yes, and it is irresponsible for the state to get involved in such matters where there is not a direct medical or welfare need. In the case of incest, it certainly increases the likelihood of recessive heriditary defects coming to the fore but by no means does it mean you will give birth to a mutant. Habitual inbreeding should certainly be avoided but the rare cases in which it happens are not a particular problem either for the human race or for the individuals concerned. Rather than suggesting we should outlaw all types of breeding which may increase the chances of genetic diseases being passed on, I think we need a more rational approach to incest, perhaps decriminalising it, in place of these archaic laws which are founded in the (entirely natural) instinctive taboos we all have. If it doesn't cause harm, of course it should be allowed, in spite of what our intuition tells us...
