if you're in to dramatic trial books, anything by jodi picoult if you're in to not giving a fuck about the world, the stranger by albert camus people tend to like kurt vonnegut. i see nothing special, but you might. the only book of his i finished was slaughter-house five. it was ok. i tried reading cat's cradle but i just never finished. the great gatsby was kind of interesting, if you're interested in those "newer" classics you might want to look into it
A Tale of Two Cities Les Miserables Crime and Punishment On the Road Visions of Cody Autobiography of a Yogi
the whole first page is two people trying desperately to out-don't-care the other. I've been reading some sick ass books for my Russian Lit class. Read anything you can by Ivan Bunin, the mother fucker was brilliant. The Petty Demon by Fyodor Sologub is a little dense, but you might like it. It's about a very bitter, sadistic man named Peredonov, and his descent into insanity. Some suspect Sologub was schizophrenic. Red Cavalry by Babel (can't remember his first name) is an interesting collection of short stories that can also be analyzed as a single work. They take place during the Russian civil war and are based on his experience in the battlefield. I'm currently reading Envy by Yuri Olesha, which is turning out to be my favorite book of the class. (Although I absolutely loved Bunin, his longer works tested my patience). it's about a man who was kicked out of a saloon and rescued by a soviet beauracrat, whom he envies. hence the title. but as the story goes on it quickly becomes too multifaceted for the characters to fit into clear boxes of good and bad, worthy and pathetic, sympathetic and unsympathetic.
