I was adding to the thread what I thought would be interesting. Nothing more.

Oh okay I suppose that fine. I'll contribute.

    9. God has 8 nipples. He used to have 10 but he thought that 8 looked better so he gave 2 to Adam (that's why men have nipples). God has a big fucking Red Hot Chili Peppers tattoo on his back and a hitler moustache (hitler knew this, that's why he had one). God is infallible, omnipotent, omniscient and can in fact do the logically impossible. We just can't comprehend the logically possible but god can, he invented logical impossibility after all. Also, god is everything. Everything! Including these letters and this period. <-----period (god). God is sexy.

    God's will---
If we meet the basic definition, we're back to gravity, entropy, etc.
    Undeniable and everywhere.
    But no "being" is required.
    ----------
Faith is proof of the existence of religion, but religion is not proof of the existence of god. Belief does not and cannot validate that which is believed in.

You personify god based on nothing but your own belief system.
Why ask a question if one has already decided on the answer one demands to hear?
    Atheist and Theist-- faithful all.

To me, god is just a term for a being that created us, or perhaps the universe. We can only guess if a god exists, therefore anything more specific is speculation.

If god is omnipotent, it chooses not to interfere with our existance, at least recently if you believe the accounts in the bible used by the abrahamic religions.

If god is omniscient, it did or allowed many things to happen for some reason that escapes my logic. I guess it should though, considering I'm not god...

    True.
    I like that thought.
Another successful conversion by the use of firm breasts
Firm breasts: A very powerful conversion tool. :D

    Too many assumptions :piggy:

Sure, if we meet the basic definition without extending towards other definitions - Sounds like dictionary philosophy.

This is true. I would say that God's will is equivalent to the laws of nature but Laws of nature does not require sentience; it would be more of a functionality.

Is God a law of nature?

Is God's will a law of nature?

So god is the non-conscious, non-volitional universe? Well in that case YES GOD EXISTS PRAISE THA LAWD! :)

I personally try not to be ambiguous as fuck. A God is a deity. It's best to find more meaningful and accurate words for things that don't fit that description. Doesn't it just seem silly to call non-conscious, non-volitional forces a God?

In terms of the absolute any description is an abstraction of the mind. Beyond form, this discussion asks the question, what is reality or what is real.
On this question we may make some reliable statements.
    Reality is non local.
    Reality is never remote.
    Reality is without opposition.
What is not real does not exist.

Are you saying that the way reality is, makes a measurement on what God could be?

If you choose to represent anything to yourself, you may check your definitions against these reliable statements about reality. If they do not conform, you may comfortably discard them or not at your leisure.
However if time is a valuable commodity it would make sense to devote ourselves to the apprehension of realty, rather than the cultivation of illusions.

I just mean that the word "God" when taken to mean anything other than a volitional creator, a deity, causes ambiguity. If we were not created by such a being, there's no reason to use the word "God". Simply the universe will suffice and will avoid confusion.

yes, I agree, but it seemed as if you thought I said that.

    I said...

I see where I worded that in a confusing way, my bad:eek:... How about this:

Yeah that makes more sense. Emphasizing that a "God" is a living being is important and a lot of the mystical new age shaman types around here cant seem to grasp the distinction. If the universe came into existence by being created by a conscious, volitional force, we can call that force God. God is thinking and purposeful. If the universe came into existence by a non-thinking, non-volitional force as postulated in the big bang theory or some vague, unspecified universal energy or magic, we shouldnt go calling that force "God". The word God is tied to religious belief in a deity.

What exactly is an illusion if we don't know reality?

The test is conformity to the reliable statements about reality.
    Say for example you represent to yourself this statement;
I have to do something today. Does this statement conform in every respect to the statements about reality.
You will find that it does not. It is fully supported only by a string of special contingencies. The truth is, if you do not attend to that chore it does not effect the stroke of reality. Life, reality proceeds unabated.
You hear a common refrain in this world to justify an unwillingness to accept the plain and obvious solutions to the worlds systemic problems and that is, we have to satisfy the existing status quo, otherwise the world will fall apart. We thus have immobilized ourselves with fear. An illusion is always some form of justification for fear.
