I'm in country new south wales, and shellite is nearly impossible to buy. I have about a kilo of acacia phlebophylla bark from the peak of mt buffalo. I have hcl acid, acetone, caustic soda and turpentine. As far as I'm aware turpentine is good for de-fatting but not so great for extracting. I really don't want to use lighter fluid but it's seeming I have no choice. Can anyone tell me a good substitute for shellite, perhaps aerostart (petrolium ether)? I plan to start in the next 24 hours in my private location out bush, any advice would be greatly appreciated.
check hardware stores in the paint section, should be vm&p naptha or try from a Shell Fuel Depot (not Servo) they sell 20L drums for like $45 (used as camping fuel) BP fuels sells it also under the name R55
you reckon turps will work? also in this shitty town you cant even buy a ph tester-I just poured hydrochloric acid w/w 320g/l straight onto a small sample of bark in a glass jar-this is my first experimentation-think it could be a bit strong?
