Not imprisoned or enslaved; being at liberty. it's hard to be free in today's society. we're all a slave to something edit: actually, i'd say that if you live in society then you're not free at all
Freedom to do as been told = not freedom I think its a combination of the two, being free physically and mentally. I know many people have achieved freedom, many say they do when really they have not. I confess i made progress, but i can not call myself free yet, i still see boundaries and limits, which i need to overcome before i see the endless road
In the modern world freedom is only an illusion, our people as a whole havn't been free in at leat 6,000 years.
I guess we are free to a certain extent but we also aren't. Like atleast this isn't a communist country and we do have rights... we also can't do what we want.... Freedom can be used in different ways. When im with my friends and not at home where my mom is always like watching me and i dont exactly do whatever i want then i would say im not completly free. But when i can its like i am... after i graduate i will be 'free.'
I already know I'm not free, but I still fight against society. I refuse to conform, being american I can say we are probably some of the biggest hypocrites Ive ever seen. People say we're free ,but we're run by a socialist goverment. Humbug
But to not conform, you have to conform not to . Society is not the entire blame, all though i did blame it, now i see it as a requirement of today's world.
I think the definition of freedom in this culture is the power to determine under what constraints we choose to live our lives. We make choices all the time and in doing so we rule out other options. Laws, ethics, even moral codes of conduct are constraints some folks choose to place themselves under- not to mention the wisdom to see the likely outcome of a particular course of action.
If you believe you're free--you are.If you believe you're not free --you're not. As Brad said,it's relative. We're free to do or try to do anything we want.
Hmn, i have to agree. But the freedom to choose your restraints... Then to be 'completely' free you would have to deny all and everything, be a spontaneous being even denying its own instincts and subconscious... Leading to what society would consider a madman, since this being could not even be in control of himself since that would make him his own slave... And now i ask, is it better to be completely free? we are all slaves to ourselves...
