Has anyone else noticed how much more psychedlic drugs seem to be permeating mainstream media? I occasionally watch television to get a feel for what's going on in media, and I'm beginning to notice a lot of references to drugs like acid, mushrooms, and peyote in popular, prime time television (Greys Anatomy, SNL, Parks and recreation to name a slight few). Not to mention the recent Nat Geo documentary on LSD, which puts the chemical in a predominately less-than-negative light.

I'm posting in the shroom section because i just saw this video a few minutes ago:

Could we be in the midst of another psychedelic revolution? A mind control scheme? A desperate marketing ploy?

I do remember a house episode when he took LSD to get rid of a migraine.
On Fringe Walter is always high on something or making some type of psychedelic cocktail.

yeah i notice it--hope it continues----Nat Geo does a few of them LSD--xtc pot coke speed heroin-----"illegal drugs and how they got that way" recently saw a good one on san pedro cactus"mescaline" used religiously in Peru and and a good DMT one a beginner shaman taking his first couple trips----to train him as a healer for his tribe---with scientists responding "the latest info suggests that DMT is produced in the brain and is involved with the dream state so imagine him dreaming with his eyes open and awake" with cautions that they are exposed from childhood to psychedelic experiences so they have fewer "bad trips" and a PHD of religious studies suggesting that they can handle experiences better because they know that they could come in contact with "familiar" spirits so they dont "freak out" the way maybe some recreational western user would---more more more--please

There is quite a bit of buzz going on in the media regarding psychs, I agree. I don't think the opinion is any different though. For the most part, it's people who have never taken psychedelic drugs, describing what it's like or creating new propaganda about them. I still can't believe there's a movie called "Shrooms." Thanks assholes in Hollywood, now stupid people who know nothing about mushrooms will think there's a weird ass mushroom that freaks you the fuck out!

Well, hallucinogenic mushrooms do kinda freak you out, but not usually negatively. I think it's safe to say most people love their experiences with mushroms though. So even if it were as the case of the movie, when does a bad trip of that magnitude ever happen?

If you check out National Geographic, they did an episode about how scientists and doctors are starting to do lab tests on humans and LSD for the first time since the 1960's! I think we're starting to come around again :)

i think the media (as a reflection of the masses) is and has always been very curious about psychedelics, but fears the implications of such a phenomenon, and so it is portrayed in a way that is condesending.
people tend to be this way about anything that makes them uncomfortable.

not too long ago i had a freind show me this episode of weeds where the main character was taken to a "shaman" of sorts to drink ayahuasca to relieve her migraines....i was suprised to see somthing like that. i was a bit disapointed too, if only because the imagery was so superficial it taints the reality of such things.

Yes I've noticed it too! I've seen many "psychedelic" commercials lately. Kaleidoscopic tampons... believe it or not. I've also noticed a revival of psychedelic clothing. Target had tons of paisley, tie-dye, and mandala prints the last time I checked. Maybe the collective unconscious is trying to break out?

noticed too. and it's sad that "coming around" is such a huge task. I can't believe weed isn't legal yet. when it comes to psychedelics, it'll come in many many generations later.
    ugh
