just a few questions, sorry if there's different threads or people are always asking these same exact questions. i'm new to all of this.

Okay, well, I've read all the horror stories about wax, and i know not to use it, but, if I already used it 2r3 times, is it too late? I haven't used any in months and have soaked my dreads in scolding hate water multiple times.

Is palm rolling, tip rubbing and root rubbing necessary? Does it really "speed up the process", or does it just make your arms tired?

What shampoo would ya'll recommend. How often should I wash my dreads, and, in between washings, should i rinse my dreads out with water? What's the best way to get them dry?

I have some skinny locks, before I backcombed them I put them in about 1'' sections, can I expect them to get any fatter over time as they grow? Is it normal for the knots that i created while backcombing to come out? In some cases up to have my 'dread' is just straight, smooth hair..

Anything else useful you can think of, tips/tricks, anything I should know, anything I should do, shouldn't do, feel free.

    Questions...
    1. Doesnt matter, the wax is still in there... somewhere.
    2. Its a matter of personal pacification.
If palm rolling and rubbing makes you feel better about your hair, go for it.
Personally, I think it makes no difference.
    3. Wash the way you always have. Only thing I ever changed was losing the
conditioner. Shampoo is a personal choice as well. No need to buy "for dread"
products, all natural is best. I lean in the Bonner's direction, not all people do tho :)
    4. Backcombing can/will fall out. It isnt a instant dread method, no method is instant.
It's meant to give your locks a start, not a finish.
The loose hairs will work themselves into a dread over time.

All natural locks can take YEARS.
Same for back combed, twisted, ripped, _____ fill in the blank.
The only thing that is the same for everyone is TIME.

2)Palm rubbing, tip rubbing and root rubbing will make all your dready desires come to fruition.

3)Shampoo is not necessary, only conditioner.

Look in the stickies for the deep cleanse recipes and do it up... tis wax's arch-nemesis. Worked great to take mine out, tho you'll want to do a second like a week later. That should take care of the issue.:cheers2:

    Then just give em time

As far as the wax goes, dont worry about it. If you've dunked your head in hot water multiple times and you only waxed about 3 times, you should be fine in the long run. Just leave em be.
I do not think palm rubbing is necessary at all. In fact, if you do it everyday I believe you'll weaken the knots. My dreads are almost a year and a half old and I palm rolled for the first time last week. The only reason I did was because a dread in the front had some serious bulbish issues. It was straight at the root and then mid way down the dread it bulbed out like a tumor and then split....it looked like a tumor with two legs and it was driving me nuts! So my man got tired of hearing me complain about it and palm rolled the hell out of it to flatten it out for me. lol. Lo and behold it worked for a day...but after I washed it bulbed out again. rat bastard. So anyways....palm rolling is not necessary....unless you want crazy uniform locks then you might want to palm roll maybe once a week just to keep them all straight looking. But I wouldnt do it more than that.
As far as shampoo goes...you really just have to find what works for your hair and skin type. In the beginning I went through 5-6 different shampoos before I found one that worked for me. Bronners doesnt work for everybody. I use an all natural antidandruff shampoo made by everclean. You can find it at most health food stores.
    I hope that helps!

am i the only one who finds it strange that someone would start a thread called 'questions you're sick of answering' and be taking themselves seriously? lol?

really, truly, honestly, the quickest way to get the best and most concise yet comprehensive information about everything that you're asking is to read the faq. that's why it's called faq and that's why it's stickied.

    :)

Yes. Cut now and start over. It's like me saying "Hay guys I've read horror stories about inhaling asbestos and I know it'll fuck my lungs up but fuggit I only snorted about 4 lines, is it too late for medicul attention?"

    The answer is yes. Frankly.

 What is this water you speak of? :D

I disagree, he only used it a few times, and he's already some months in, just don't use it again op and keep them clean. It probably won't end up causing a problem for some time, and maybe not at all.
