Hey guys, Thought I would ask here and see if anyone knew the answer to my question. :)

A little over 3 months ago my doctor presrcibed me Kadian for my chronic back pain. I have spinal stenosis, damaged disks, nerve damage etc.

At the time I couldnt fill it as the damn thing costs $350 for a months supply and I lost my insurance after being hurt on the job.

Does anyone know if their is a time limit on getting a prescription like this filled? Really trying to avoid going back to the doctor and paying them $160 just to write a new one. :(

Live in California btw, Thanks for any help!

If you're paying cash, try Costco's pharmacy, they're the cheapest. Take the script there ASAP and they'll hold it for you and it'll be good until you can come up with the money to afford it. They've even given me part of the script and billed me for what I picked up and held the rest. But yes, the controlled substance prescriptions do expire after I think 2 weeks or so. Double check that since I'm not certain. There are some other plans that'll help pay. I have Prescription RX and it knocks a few bucks off my scripts every month. The price of brand name scripts is outrageous. Kadian is time release morphine, I'm pretty sure. Maybe something comparable like Oramorph SR or MS Contin would be cheaper if there are generics for it and they'd do the same thing. Do some phone calling! Much luck.

I live in Canada, my Doc says you do have a certain amount of time to fill your prescription. But he also said in some cases they can extend them. So just go ahead and ask YOUR doctor.

As a person who was in california up until just recently all I can tell you is MEDICAL I am sure you have heard of this amazing thing, it is pretty much California's attempt at socialized heathcare. Worked for me when I needed stitches!

I would at least get to costco and let them fill them then come up with the cash..But the script should be good for 6 months.I'm pretty sure but i fill mine before the ink is dry, so I cant be for sure.
Just call a pharmacy and ask but i would hurry in case you wait to long..
