Well, my dreads are 'bout 4 months old, I was thinkin' about combining a couple of my dreads cause they're super skinny. I was thinking of tying them together with some hemp or somethin'.. Anyone have any personal experience on how well that works? Or anything else that works really well for that matter.

It will happen over time... You saw that picture of my hair. In my first month or two they were skinny as fuck but now they're fat and delicious.

Dude. Do not combine your dreads. I used DHHQ "Dread tool" to combine my super skinny dreads. Combined no more than two dreads to each other. They've gotten so thick that they constantly pull on my scalp, I can't get my head through non button up tops and I can't tie them up into nice 'dos.

Take it from someone who knows, let them thicken on their own otherwise you'll heavily regret it two years down the line. Luckily for me, they do not like this and are splitting themselves.

at 4 months old they haven't got to their final thickness yet, they shrink and fatten, also forcing congos can cause nasty pulling on your head if you tie them and they grow differently, if you leave two close dreads alone for long enough they'll usually start to combine a bit at the root, and if you don't rip them they can eventually combine.

I know they're not at their full thickness, but I have some reaallly skinny ones, like one of 'em.. it's maybe half as thick as my index finger, and it gets skinnier and skinnier towards the tip, and it was like this the day i backcombed..

    actually, here's a pic

Should I just leave it alone? Or maybe just cut off the super skinny part? Idk, I'm at a loss.

uhm leave it, I don't understand the problem, you jstu don't like it because the tip is thin? if you don't like it...its your hair and you can cut it, the cut tip isn't guaranteed to be any nicer as the ends of young cut dreads can fray, and combining another dread to that would be a bad idea, for one its on your forehead, a really shit place to have dreads pulling at each other, causes alot of headaches...also congos grow from the root up, it would be quite a while if ever when that tip is completely combined to another

Not even the tip, the whole dreads seems ridiculously skinny to me. But hey, if it looks straight, it's staight. Now- I know it varies from person to person.. but how much fatter can i expect my dreads to get? At least twice as thick as they started out to be, i hope?

That is what backcombing does. You basically grab a hair and push the other ones toward your scalp. It is thinner at the tip because there is less hair.

    Leave it.

its gonna do what its gonna do, you can't force them fatter...that's just what happens when you section and backcomb but I still don't understand the problem...its a thin dread...so what. Even if you hemp tie them together and it doesn't pull and give you headache...the dreads don't magic themselves together, I've got maybe 4 congos now and they're only halfway up the dread and they're where i sleep on, a dreadlock on your forehead isn't going to get that extra friction from being slept on etc, also they're gonna be tied up so the hair can't move, and with backcombed dreads you might not be able to get them to force congo so well, backcombed dreadlocks tend to be harder and therefore I would think less likely to take to each other even if tied together

Mhmm, you're right, I had long dreads before, tried to combine 2 together with a bead for 3r4 months straight and it didn't help AT all. And it's not really a problem,

how did you do your dreadS?

thats not even that thin. i have one that, when it started out it was about as thick as an angel hair pasta noodle. after almost a year its about as fat as the wide side of a fettuccinni noodle now. so just forget about it and let them do their own thing. i wouldnt stress. if you stress your probably going to cut, cuz nomatter how much you stress, you will never get them the way you want them, the only way you will be happy with your dreads is if you dont care. because there is no way (other then wax) to prevent them from doing what they want.

    btw

Soon you will have the opposite problem and they will all be trying to grow together and you'll have to keep them apart :)

    This.

Leave them. I tried combining a few dreads with thread and it was the most uncomfortable ugly thing. It looked to stupid. Just let them do their own thing. They will get thicker at about 6-9 months.

I'm not sure the thickening thing is universal. Cuz I'm at 9 months and they still seem to be getting skinnier. I will agree that the pieces closest to my scalp seem thicker on some, but others are still just skinny at the root.

Id say only half of mine got considerable thicker, and they were mainly on the back of my head where all of my congos have formed. Jesus Ive got one congo thats taken up 5 dreads so dont worry about them joining together, because believe me if you leave em aloane, they bloody well will.
