Anyone sat on jury duty? Did it fuck with your head? I just sat on a 3 day rape trial... it fucked with my head..
Im feeling better some 2 weeks after the event. It was just the guilt of sending someone to Jail, and being so focused on the sorted details of a rape for 3 days, i found myself thinking about it alot and being reminded about it. We had to make a judgement on the evidence alone, after the verdict was delivered and it was all over, I could look outside of that. The whole situation is just so sad, and to know i played such a large part in deciding the fate of another person makes me feel sick.
I was walking back to work the other day behind a group of people that are.. well the same ethnicity and age of the person that was on trial... One of them looked at me (and I’m sure it was just in my head) then turned to the other and said something.. I freaked out, for a second i though she was one of the family members who sat in the court room juring the trial. My throat closed up and i though i was going to throw up. This sucks, I live in a rural town with many indigenous people, iv never had a problem with them.. nothing bad has happened to me (I’m tall and always have steel cap boots on in town), the odd one will jump in the car jokingly... but other than that I have experienced no violence or abuse from them, and had no fear when passing them on the street.. and well I often bought weed from them. The trial revealed information such as his age, (he is only a few months younger than me), and his address, (he lived just around the corner from me), and a few times during the trial he caught me looking at him, and we made eye contact. I couldn’t help but wonder... have I bought weed of this guy? So today i was on facebook (yeh i know im lame) looking at an old friends photos, and there in a photo is one of the whiteness that was on the trial!!!! Name and all, it was the person! I really think jury members deserve more than a few days off ‘regular’ work!!!
