So I only have one more essay this semester. It's on something we believe in. Anything at all. We had to do this same thing only shorter at the begining of the semester. I did my first one on marijuana, I may even just change an unpublished article for the paper about legalization. But I'm not too sure yet. Anyway, what are your ideas? If you had to write the same paper, what would you write about? It can be anything. Even if you believe in getting shit faced drunk and running naked through downtown...
i would write about the unjust laws the gov't imposes on us like property and income tax are big issues i have. Write about ending the war on drugs maybe
i would write about modern man's (or woman's) alienation from the world, each other and himself (or herself).
I'd write about how we believe that free trade improves our lives. We believe that consuming more stuff and having objects fulfills us as people. It's kind of an odd thing if you think about it. We believe that being removed from making our own foods that we eat is better than actually doing things ourselves. Why is that? Why do we believe having someone else grow our food, make our houses, and build our civilizations is better than doing it ourselves? It's a good question why we believe this is the way the world is...
Ah yes.. free trade.. let poor countries throw away decades of tradition for mass produced consumerism
Yeah. Exactly, Eric. Why do we decide to plant terminator seeds in our fields? That's going against nature and the earth's natural ability to produce seeds itself. There are many crops and animal life that now cannot reproduce without the interference of humans manipulating the way they cultivate the species in question. Silkworms can no longer reproduce on their own, and if we left corn fields to reproduce on their own, all the corn in the world would die. Why do we believe that changing the way nature works best is the most beneficial?
because we must... as sad as it sounds.. the world population would die off by the millions if we could not produce the amounts of food we produce today thanks to GM food sources.. even with our food sources now.. we still do not have enough food to feed everyone.. also.. back tracking our food sources would one put a HUGE dent in the amount of food produced at first.. as i believe its like 3-5 years soil has to be left alone for it to be considered "organic"(that number may be slightly off.. but i think thats what i remember) on a side note.. this girl im messin with.. she was telling me at one of the organic stores in her town.. whole organic turkeys went for $70.. obviously this number comes from the space.. feed.. and time that it takes to just let a turkey grow.. instead of pumping it full of steroids and hormones to make it grow exponentially faster
very ironic you said this... my graduation project was on existentialism and how it relates to meursault from albert camus' the stranger... alienation was one of my big talking points
We actually have a surplus of food. Just look into your freezer if you want proof. With the amount of food we produce today, we have enough to feed the planet, nobody would go hungry. It's the allocation of who gets what food, that creates kinks in the system. The thing is, GM crops and giant monoculture practices are susceptible to collapsing with certain conditions - they're not as sustainable as traditional practices - and messing with seeds that are programmed to kill themselves is potentially dangerous to the species as you're increasing the likelihood of contamination due to externalities.
i think it was a year or two ago.. i was reading an argument about how global warming is good for the economy because it will open up tons of farm-able land in canada...
not to mention how bad gm foods actually are for you.GMO foods have been linked to thousands of toxic or allergic‐type reactions, thousands of sick, sterile, and dead livestock, and damage to virtually every organ and system studied in lab animals. we shouldn't be messing with nature as much as we do. If we continue living the way we live now im sure at least 90 percent of the human population will be wiped out since we don't live one with nature. we have let our ego and materlistic ways take over.
i just want to mention i got an early xmas present, "the encyclopedia of country living" (hey, a girl can dream!) do you know what to do if your cow eats a nail? feed it a magnet. really really. back to basics, back to the foundations, because theres an awful lot of cracks in this country.
yes.. they are those long egg shaped magnets that they sell in the stores now as "rattle snakes" or whatever..
Write it about double standards and how i cant say dat cereal nigga is crazy without people looking at me like im some tweaking little white boy... its ok people... im taking it back
