I was told yesterday that I was not the right color skin for dreads

So I walked into a gas station in my hometown while I was on the way to the club, and my hometown is kind of ghetto, and the line was out the door.. So I walk in and this chick in front of me with a Mohawk starts talking to me, and sounds like she is on freaking meth, anyways she said Oh are you trying to get dreads, I am like, yes they are only 5 months. She says oh I am in beauty school, you should come in we have all types of products like wax and what not, I am like no thanks I don't like that shit, it messes up your dreads, I like them natural. She goes, Oh thats really cool I want dreads but my school wouldn't let me, they look down upon people for that. Remind you this chick has a freakin Mohawk ! I am like well I dont know why people are like that! After I said this, behind me this Redneck jerk says " Oh its because your not the right Color to have them things" I just say really, I dont think You should have to be black to have dreads. At that time I got my cigs and walked out.

Pretty Messed up, that people think this way! UGH

People always seem to want to be friends with the token black kid. Well, where I live, people seem to like to do this by saying how it's nice to see a "darker" person with dreads and not a white person. I usually give them an aggressive lecture about tolerance and dreadlocks.

 

Aggressive lectures very rarely convert people.

i had a black guy argue with me today (at the gas station that i work at... i guess its a gas sstation thing...) because he was like "sick locks, how'd you do em?" so i was like i just teased them back a little and let em do their own thing.

then he asked me waht kind of beeswax i use and got really mad when i told him that i wouldnt put that shit in my hair. he informed me that thats impossible, that dreadlocks dont just happen, and that you cant get them without beeswax. he told me he should know because he used to have "long ass locks"

If you live in England and you went to beauty school I agree with Pypes. The majority are thick as pig shit. Beauty school over here is for those that couldn't be arsed to finish high school. Ask for an inch to be taken off and they'll take off four. No hairdresser has ever given me a good har cut.

 

lol, I was in an arcade at the shopping center bear where I live, and there was a black guy with dreads In there, when I turned around he was just staring at me, his eyes darted to my dreads, then he just started shaking his head, almost In disgust. I just smiled and waved to him. My mate was like "shit man, that guy looks like he wants to tear your locks off".

 

why do some of you people get so upset when people shit on you about your hair?

 

I have gotten many dirty looks before, I dont see why it is such a big deal to black people, its hair. I mean if your Rastafarian I can kind of understand, but besides that who cares how anyone wears there hair..
